Players Kneeling for Anthem Met with Boos Before MLS Game in Texas
I imagine this is what the NFL will receive as well......
https://spectrumlocalnews.com/tx/san...sts_po-organic FRISCO, Texas -- There was a smattering of boos when players from FC Dallas and Nashville SC collectively took a knee during the national anthem before their MLS game on Wednesday night in Frisco, Texas. Dallas defender Reggie Cannon said he was disgusted by the boos at Toyota Stadium when players and officials knelt to call attention to racial injustice. He said teammate Ryan Hollingshead turned to him afterward and said he was sorry. “You can’t even have support from your own fans in your own stadium. It’s baffling to me,” Cannon said. “As a team we try to give the best possible product on the field and these last six months have been absolute hell for us. Absolute hell.” Dallas and Nashville had not played a game since the season was suspended on March 12 because of the coronavirus. While Major League Soccer’s other teams played in the MLS is Back tournament in Florida over the past month, Dallas and Nashville were forced to withdraw before the start because of positive COVID-19 tests among players from both teams. The teams met as MLS restarts the regular season in local markets. Some of the games will include fans if local jurisdictions allow it. Just over 5,000 were allowed to attend the match at Toyota Stadium, although the crowd that showed up appeared smaller. Nashville won the game, 1-0. The two teams meet again on Sunday. The death of George Floyd has spurred a number of MLS players to form the group Black Players for Change, which seeks to address systemic racism in soccer and society. At the opening game of the MLS tournament in Florida, members of the group collectively stood in silence, fists raised, for more than eight minutes. Players and coaches wore Black Lives Matter T-shirts throughout the event. Eight minutes, 46 seconds is the length of time prosecutors say Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, was pinned to the ground under a white Minneapolis police officer’s knee before he died. The anthem was not played before games at the tournament. Cannon said the players had asked that it not be played before the game because they didn’t feel it was right “for the anthem to be played in this moment.” “We had someone chanting U.S.A., but they don’t understand what kneeling means. They don’t understand why we’re kneeling. They can’t see the reason. They think we’re the ignorant ones,” Cannon said. “It’s incredibly frustrating. I’m sorry to have this tone, but you have to call it for what it is.” Cannon said he expected to have some negative pushback over the unified response. “It hurts me because I love our fans, I love this club, and I want to see the support that the league has given us, that everyone has given us, from our fans,” he said. |

True. But anyone who chooses to intentionally disrespect the American flag better be prepared to receive a shitstorm in return. I honestly don’t think Kap initially was expecting that.

They want it to be political just as much as people are making it out to be, but they want to be able to deny that it is. And at that, I think it’s best to move on before this thread ends up in D.C. Everyone kneel or don’t, lets play sport ball! |

If it's not political, what is it?
The purpose of the demonstration, even on their very own terms, is to realize change in governmental dynamics. How would you characterize the act in a manner that avoids politics?

Yea I disagree with Dane here. It’s absolutely political and that’s because of both sides.
That’s why you have so many people like Lebron, Mahomes, Mathieu etc. talking about voting like it’s going to fix everything. I don’t necessarily have a problem with it, but it’s clearly become political. I honestly don’t think it’s even arguable at this point. |

I say that as a strong supporter of players' rights to do it. It's just that you HAVE to acknowledge that kneeling is not an action someone would take if peace and harmony among fans was their primary goal. |

I could be wrong but most stadiums and arenas were built and funded by State Municipal and federal dollars. That is why the US and State flags fly over these buildings. Somewhere along the line our National Anthem was started. Take the taxpayer out of the equation and maybe you can lose the anthem. Hell I can remember going to the circus and shows on ice and the NA was played. Also sale barns and auctions took place in a public building where the Flag flew and the NA was played. I guess just set like a mope and turn your headphones up and let the rest of us who don't mind it enjoy.

Well, if we are being honest, TV contracts are the largest support system for the players bank accounts. Fan revenue makes up about 15%, IIRC
