It took a perfect storm for us to lose by one point to the team with the second best record in the AFC last night. SB teams lose games (almost) every year. We have been hanging around 18% chance to win the SB all year. It will in all likelihood end in disappointment. This was always true.

Bottomline is we weren't as good as some of you thought before this game and we are better than some of you think afterwards. In either case, expect to walk away from this season without a SB victory. Play the long game.

It was simple math. 3v2 with an incredibly fast receiver, even on one leg. Would have been at least a 7 yard gain.

Pat has to see that.
He looked a little "off" a lot in that game. He looked rushed and even a little panicked a couple of times, and once they showed him kind of yelling after one play (don't remember which). I remember thinking that this was really the first game where Mahommes showed signs of being human. It's late in the season, and other NFL teams with competent D Coordinators are figuring out ways to stop him. It is what it is, he's young and learning.

The 2013 Chiefs fooled me too, going 9-0 after a 2-14 season, new coach, new (to us) QB, good veterans on D...and then it all came back to earth. The difference is, We've seen Patty make other worldly plays and even in this game he did that. He'll only learn and get better. I didn't expect this kind of production this year, and we as a fan base have been sucked in again. I'm not blaming anybody for that. Hell, we are so starved for a Championship that when we see a guy like Mahommes doing shit that no other QB has ever done, well...we start to believe again.

Obvious changes must be made in the D, starting with the coordinator. That's the lose factor for the Chiefs.

Enjoy the fact that we actually have a bright future, but temper that with the fact that this is probably too soon to expect us to go all the way. As always, I hope we do but I'm not betting on it.

Go Chiefs.

And I think Dan Marino's case is a sample size of one.

No one is taking Mahomes for granted and likes the thought of coasting this year because we inevitably have better times ahead in our future. But the way this team is built right now, the players who are sticking around, etc., there's good reason to think we'll be in a great position to contend the next few years.

I think people are just trying to look on the bright side after a tough loss in realizing that we're still well ahead of anyone's predicted schedule in terms of development AND we still control our own destiny for HFA in the playoffs. Only Chiefs fans can overreact to this degree in the face of those indisputable facts, but of course we all know why that is. Because Chiefs.

Yeah, I'd have to imagine a short week is brutal on a young qb. Huge disadvantage we may not have considered. Once again, TNF is total bullshit.

If he was on the attack, there'd be at least two passes with a first down option first, short checkdown second.

The short check down on 3rd and 4 two series prior.
Going for chunk yards on 2nd down

That doesn't feel like Mahomes. That feels like Mahomes in handcuffs.
You do not understand football at all... it was 2nd and 13. The coverage dictates where you throw it on that play and it was obvious they were giving the underneath, you throw it and hope you get 5-7 making it a manageable third down as 3 and 8 is much easier than3 and 12, believe it or not. as it's a second of pass blocking you don't need. On 3rd down, dumbass Harris false starts making it 3 and 13... We needed that second. I would have liked to have seen a screen on first down, but the way we gashed them the series before, I understand the run. If the screen would have blown up, or a pass incomplete on first down, you would all be screaming on here that we should have ran it after we did so well on the last series.

This place is going to blow up when Brees is glorified on Monday.

He’s gonna win and the announcers will hype up Brees and Rivers for the Super Bowl.

“Two elite QBs with recent big road wins, wouldn’t you love to see the two battle it out in the Super Bowl. They have a history when they were drafted, it would be very interesting”

My problem with that sequence is that how can Reid a HC for two decades not be prepared for such a common in-game situation? Maybe it was just poor execution, we won’t know for sure. In any case if he can’t make up his mind on how to close out games with this offense he is not winning anything.

We put up 28 points. There’s only three teams (Chiefs, Rams, Saints) who average more than 28ppg. If that’s what Mahomes bad night is, then we should start counting our rings

He wasn’t bad, scared, or panicked. Sometimes you just get beat. Do people really expect him to go 25/30, 350 yards and 5 TD every week? His interior line is in shambles, 3rd string RB, and no Watkins, yet we still put up 28. Mahomes isn’t slowing down, this is just football.

The truth is that this place is a bipolar rapid cycler. When the Chiefs win in Seattle next week, and they will, this place will crown them. The Chiefs have a bad defense, but their offense is good enough to overcome anything. This isn't the 2003 Chiefs that lost to teams like the Bengals or lost by four TDs to the Vikings, or the 1995 team that won almost all its coinflips and got bludgeoned by a mediocre Browns team.

They've beaten three of their five likely playoff opponents already, and lost to two of them by a total of four points. They can lose because every team can lose in a one game sample of a sport that isn't ridiculously imbalanced (like college FB). Teams can beat Mahomes and teams can come in to Arrowhead and win. But no team wants to have to. That's as much as you can hope for in pro football.
Yep spot on.

I will say this and maybe get shitted on completely but I think I might rather this team play on the road in the playoffs. Maybe it is my faulty memory or what not but they seem to play alot more aggressive offensively on the road than they have at home.

We are playing the hardest schedule...We HAVE played playoff "caliber" teams, or teams leading their division.

It's how you play that day.

Sure, but we've lost about half of our games against playoff teams. That doesn't bode well for a Super Bowl run.

obvious question is obvious.

I'm just stating the defense was/is still the problem and QB's can't always overcome that.

Now, the offense playing flat plays a part, too...but it's the D's job to protect the lead.

QB play is best in the league. The defense can’t hold a lead and that’s on Clark, Andy and Veach.

^overreaction^

Really, when ALL 3 (gasp) losses are last second, last posession pull out a win with help form the refs?

We are >< close ...WITH a subpar defense.

Next year it's really going to blow up, if they draft well,
