The Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania is also not completed, but IIRC, all of the land has been acquired by the NPS.

The first phase is scheduled for completion on Sept 11, 2011. The Memorial is a private/public partnership, and they still need something like 15 million in donations, so if anyone feels like making a donation today, this is a good cause.

I took the day off so I could get DirecTV installed. Installer was supposed to be at my place at 9 am think he showed up around noon. Under the circumstances

I turned on the TV and saw smoke coming out of the towers. Thought that's weird lemme change the channel. Saw the same thing on that channel. I remember the feeling of being punched in the stomach when I realized it was real.

The History Channel had been superb today. They just did a great piece on the head of security in the Towers for Morgan-Stanley, Rick Rescorla. The guy was a Brit that after serving in the British South African Police, he volunteered for the US Army and served as 2nd Lt in Nam. It allowed him to become a citizen and he then got the job as Security Chief.

An incredible story.

I have a friend that I recently caught up with (20 years) who was the front man/PR guy for the largest commercial flight simulators in the Country at that time. His world came to a grinding halt on 9/11. Zacarias Moussaoui was in fact at that moment enrolled in one of their other schools. My friend finally quit after a stressful year and a half of doing nothing but dealing with international press.

I was on week two at my new job. I had just started listening to talk radio and heard some morning show guy talking about how the WTC was hit by a plane. I asked the boss if there were any TVs and told him what I had heard and we pulled one out and started watching just as the second plane hit. Needless to say, nothing got done the rest of the day.

I also remember hearing about the lines at the pumps and I didn't believe it. On my way home I saw a Kwik shop LOADED with customers but the prices had not gone up like I was hearing. The news that night, however, showed an Amoco off of I-70 jacking up their prices to $3.00 unleaded, $4.00 Midgrade and $5 Super unleaded. Pissed me off to no end to see people trying to take advantage of the situation. The dumbassed owner tried to pass it off as receiving instructions from "headquarters" too. Funny, none of the other Amocos in the city jacked up their prices. Just him.

I was flying back from Orlando when it happened. I knew something was up because we landed in Memphis, and I was lucky enough to get a rental car to drive back to Kansas City.

Yes, I was one of the two idiots waving the flag at the Union Street bridge over I-25 in Denver. We got a lot of honks from the folks below.

No. We didn't disrupt traffic in the slightest way.

I still have my copy of the CBS special with the firefighters and exclusive footage of that foreign film crew from inside the WTC. Jarring stuff. Especially when you could hear the bodies hitting the ceiling.
