Let the Derrick Johnson Lovefest begin

Even though DJ was sitting there to be taken King Carl tried to blow this and trade down (according to ESPN) I'm very happy to see he didn't get a chance to blow this.

We got a top notch OLB that will hit someone hard.

Wheres that link to the DJ highlights?

It's pretty amazing how pumped I've become for this season over the course of the weekend.

I'd sure like to know what NE sees in Beisel.

You look at his resume and you can't help but be wowed. Most of the planet is estatic about the selection. We fielded a Division 1-AA defense last year. Why is the national media not giving KC its props for landing DJ?

But I also have a question for you: you were championing Thomas Davis in the couple weeks leading up to the draft. Now you seem pretty stoked about the DJ pick. Is this because you assumed that DJ would not be available or would you have still prefered Thomas Davis?

Just curious...
I was pretty sure going in that DJ would be a top-8 pick. I had pretty much talked myself out of getting him at all. And I'm not a fan of trading up, so if he did fall into that 10-12 range, I didn't want him for that price. Those are the 2 big reasons I wanted Davis.

I don't think DJ is the be-all, end-all that some do. There are SOME flaws. But the fact that he fell all the way to us at #15 pretty much makes this a steal.

He fell to #15 for a reason. There must be some flaw somewhere. But I just don't see him busting in the NFL.

Most LBers fall. It's just not a sexy pick. Look where Ray Lewis went. Look at where Vilma went.

I think people get caught up in a "negative", start watching too many highlight films, and start making overgeneralizations. I've been hoping we could find a way to land DJ ever since the Chiefs season went downhill last year, and I just can't believe he fell to us. I tried to watch him play every time they were on TV, because he was the one guy I really wanted. He's not perfect or anything, but he just makes things happen. He does miss a tackle here and there but I don't think he's some bouncy ball that's gonna get tossed around in the NFL like some of these analysts would have you believe. I mean Ray Lewis himself has problems when you can actually block him, but the idea is to let him roam the field and make plays.

The 15 minutes every hour they must devote to the Denver signing Clarett seriously hampers the time they have to cover the CHiefs.

Paralysis through analysis. If you just read very many profiles of the draft prospects those "negatives" seem to mean more and more in your head then they do in reality. Every year there's players who are to small, to slow, to stiff or to weak who turn out to be players. DJ is a top prospect with mega production from a big time football college. Somebody notices an imperfection and suddenly there's questions about his ability to play in the NFL. Damn glad because now he's ours.
