Here's another regular joe 7-round try. This one is OL heavy, because I'm pretending Brian Waters retires.
1. OT Eugene Monroe, Virginia -- Watching this guy and loving him. Slide Albert inside, and you've got your old lineup. 2. DE Maurice Evans, Penn State -- If he falls to the 2nd, we must be the team to pick him up. 3. C Max Unger, Oregon -- Taylor and Richardson may be this team's future on the right side. Now we need someone in the middle. 4. QB Chase Daniel, Missouri -- Because why the **** not. I actually think Daniel can make it in this league, but this is about the soonest I'd take him. 5. WR Tiquan Underwood, Rutgers -- Flirts with a 4.3 40, and isn't teeny tiny like most WRs this late in the draft. 6. MLB Daniel Holtzclaw, Eastern Michigan -- I don't know. He falls or something. 7. OT Eric VandenHeuvel, Wisconsin -- Another guy that has fallen because of an injury that has hobbled him a bit, but the talent is there. |

Can anyone project how many compensatory picks we might get? I know there was some sort of formula a particular website has used to pretty accurately predict these. Any way we pull an extra 3rd? I know the Eagles(I believe) did.

Concept draft time.
Here's a draft where we do little more than address the line of scrimmage. 1. DE Michael Johnson, Georgia Tech -- This team is in dire need of a pure pass-rusher. 2. C Alex Mack, California -- The best center prospect I've seen in a long time. If he slips, grap him. 3. DT Evander Hood, Missouri -- Penetrating DT whose sole job should be finally creating some havoc in the backfield. 4. QB Nathan Brown, Central Arkansas -- Phenomenal player at a lesser level of competition. If he looks great at the Combine, he's a threat for the first day. 5. DE Derek Walker, Illinois -- A strong-side DE who can play the pass as well. This team needs to get better on the DL, and get better fast. 6. OG Steve Rehring, Ohio State -- Massive hole-opener for LJ. 7. OT Eric VandenHeuvel, Wisconsin -- Another guy that has fallen because of an injury that has hobbled him a bit, but the talent is there. |

Have us picking first and selecting Tyson Jackson?? Am I just not well informed?? I don't think he should even be in the 2nd round let alone the first. I would take GT's Johnson, or PSU's Maurice Evans over LSU's Jackson. |

1. KANSAS CITY (1-4)
Remaining strength of schedule: 32-29 (.525 winning percentage). None of Kansas City's next six opponents has a losing record. Reason for optimism: Chiefs coach Herm Edwards is known as a great motivator, which means he should at least get inspired play out of a roster featuring 33 players with three years or less of NFL experience. Quarterback Brodie Croyle (shoulder) is expected to return Sunday against Tennessee after missing the past four games. Reason for pessimism: Croyle has lost all seven of his NFL starts and will have even less to work with offensively if his top receiving target -- tight end Tony Gonzalez -- is dealt before the NFL's trade deadline. Kansas City's defensive line is a mess. The Chiefs rank last in the league in sacks (3) and run defense (182.2-yard average). And the Chiefs select: Louisiana State defensive end Tyson Jackson. The Chiefs need more offensive firepower but there may not be a skill-position player worth selecting in the top five. The 6-foot-5, 291-pound Jackson is an outstanding all-around player who can fill the void created by April's trade of Pro Bowl end Jared Allen to Minnesota. Jackson and Chiefs 2008 first-round pick Glenn Dorsey also were teammates on LSU's national championship team last season |

A 300 lb defensive end does not fit our defense in any way.

The Chiefs go completely nuts and get really aggressive with th 2009 Draft. They tell every team in the league that they are anxious to trade down and get more picks -- so they get lots of offers on Draft Day.
First, they trade down from the #2 overall pick to the Seahawks, acquiring the Seahawks' pick later on in the Top 10, plus their 2nd, and a 2nd in 2010. Then they trade Tony G plus a third rounder for the later of the two first-rounders the Eagles have. Then they trade down out of the top 10 to the Patriots, for the Patriots mid-1st rounder and their 2nd. They then trade LJ to some sucker team for a 3rd. At a couple other points throughout the Draft, the Chiefs trade down. They trade their 5th away for a 6th this year and a 4th in 2010. They also trade down from their 6th for a later 6th and a 7th. That gives us the following lineup for a proper rebuild: 2009: mid1st, late 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 6th, 7th, 7th 2010: 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th 2009 Draft: 1. DE Greg Hardy, Ole Miss -- If he declares, he has great upside considering the damage he wreaks in the SEC. 1. QB Colt McCoy, Texas -- A great late-first grab if he continues winning this year. McCoy is ascending. 2. WR Juaquin Iglesias, Oklahoma -- This is a particularly weak WR class this year, so if the Chiefs have to pick one, I love the savvy Iglesias. 2. DT Terrance Taylor, Michigan -- Run-stuffing specialist will be a big need for us this year. 2. C Max Unger, Oregon -- A new playcaller in the middle of the line should be a priority for this team this year. Niswanger is depth at C, nothing more. 3. OLB Tyrone McKenzie, South Florida -- Prolific tackling machine, and a linebacker who is actually familiar with gaps. The nerve! 4. MLB Daniel Holtzclaw, Eastern Michigan -- **** you guys, I'm sticking with Holtzclaw. 6. CB Brice McCain, Utah -- We need a 3rd CB, preferably a speed demon who can keep up with Steve Smith. 6. QB Chase Daniel, Missouri -- If Chase did actually fall this far, you don't have a lot to lose by putting him in 3rd string behind McCoy and Gray. 7. RB Javorski Lane, Texas A&M -- Without LJ, we're going to need a proper battering ram. Lane has promise as a Jerome Bettis type, maybe even as a FB. 7. OT Eric VandenHeuvel, Wisconsin -- Could be a late round steal for solid depth. Used to be first day talent. If the Chiefs pick him up, they need to give him premium quality care. |
