The I am drunk and calling Mecca out thread...

So... You told me numerous times, that I was wrong about Jake Long...

We argued about Dorsey. Gholsten, etc....

Wh proved himself the better player?

Are you willing to man up and admit that you were wrong? Or do you have more excuses?

Just curious... btw Malaluagua (who I have been high on) did NOT impress me in the Senior Bowl tonight... I would rather have Laurenitis... someone with more brains and discipline.

Here's a play by play breakdown of the matchup between Jake Long and Chris Long.

http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2008/12/02/e...vs-chris-long/

As you can see, the Dolphins did help on several plays in that game, and it's fairly representaive of what I saw from the Dolphins throughout the season.

Long was a solid pick. He is going to the pro-bowl as a rookie. The Dolphins offense and running game flourished this year. Everyone shifts protection from time to time.

Of the top 5 guys we were arguing about last year, he's definately panned out to this point. Certainly better than say, Gholston who many argued very loudly would be much better.
Long helped make his team better. What more do you want? If you cant even concede that, you have some serious ego problems.

Not in terms of run blocking. Long played well this year, well enough to prove his detractors who said he was only a RT wrong. Was he worth the #1 pick? It's too early to tell. There really wasn't any prospect that had #1 overall value last year anyway, Long ended up the pick by default.

Sure, in terms of run blocking too. Albert and Clady are clearly the equal of Jake Long, in fact I might even say Clady is superior to Long.

Some of us were arguing that Long will never be an elite pass protector, that he has slow foot work and will need help with speed pass rushers.
He is a physically dominating run blocker, and that would make him better suited to play RT.

So far what we've seen of Long in the NFL has done nothing to dispel that belief.

He gave up 2.5 sacks, had five penalties and run blocked at around 96% efficiency. He's proven that he can play LT, I don't think even think that is really up for debate anymore.

Oh, and as for the Pro Bowl, when Steve Bono earns a Pro Bowl berth, that should tell just how relevent that accolade is.

Which is to say, totally irrelevent.

People vote for names they know.

Chad Pennington.

You give that guy time in the pocket and this last year is what you get. Doesnt that say something for Longs pass blocking?

I watched a lot of Dolphin games, as well as the Donkeys, and of course the Chiefs.

Clady and Albert didn't get as much help in pass protection combined as Long got from the Dolphins.

What it says is that the Dolphins did a nice job of providing help to Long when he needed it.

Bono played well that year and was a product of the team. He played smart and rode a great line and great Defense.

I've heard nothing but praise nationally for the job Long did this year. There is nothing to say his pro-bowl berth is just slipping in on name alone.

Bono was a mediocre QB.

And I would bet you that you could ask 100 casual football fans to name the LT for the Donkeys, Chiefs and Fish, and, at best, you would get 1 out of three that could name anyone but Long.

Rey did not impress me that much either. But that's only one game. Maybe if he shows just enough warts he'll slip to the 2nd round for us. That would be sweet.

Crabtree will probably run close to a 4.6 forty. He is not going to lift his draft status by running. Of course, speed only means so much when the rest of your game is so good. Running without pads is overrated.
