Signed is one thing. At least SOAD and QOTSA have put out good music this decade. |

Most of these "nu-metal" bands they're listing are 90's bands in my opinion. But then again, I'm not a big fan of Tool, Korn, Limp Biskit, Disturbed, or any of the rest of them. They all sound the same.

I was so sick of Tool by the time they released their 3rd album that I actually haven't even heard anything from them this decade. We saw them on the 2nd stage at Palooza in 1991 and thew were awesome. And then my group of friends started listening to them to the exclusion of ANYTHING else and it ruined any appreciation I had for the band.

How are the Kings of Leon not at the top of this discussion? Also the Raconteurs album Consolers of the Lonely is probably this decade's best.

my vote is for wilco. though they've been around since the mid 90's, they've really found their sound and come into their own since yankee hotel foxtrot.

I was a fan of Disturbed from day one. To me, there are zero similarities between these bands. |

However, it seems you got into alot of these bands ALOT later than I did. In my group of friends, they listened to this stuff OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. It got to the point where it was like "Wow. Another clever band detuned to D." And they just started to all sound the same. |

Good point as I didn't see that caveat in the OP. However, System didn't really gain popularity until 99-00, IIRC.

You're almost too late. Maybe you should just hold off for a while and pick back up in the 2010s.

I didn't read the whole thread in detail, so I'm not sure if they've been mentioned or not... but for me.... hands down the best band of this decade is The Decemberists. Followed closely by The White Stripes.

I think my favorite straight "ROCK" bank is Seether. First album came out in 2000. I really like their stuff.
(Please note, I live in BFE and haven't even heard of some of these guys) I think my favorite band of the 2000's is Taking Back Sunday. But I don't know if you qualify them as rock. Posted via Mobile Device |

I'll throw in for Arcade Fire, just because I think that THEY think they're the best in the decade which is both hilarious and appealing. TV on the Radio would also be important. White Stripes did a lot for re-popularizing a gritty, garage sound and bringing the blues back into rock. They're borderline from last decade, though, I think. It's funny to see different people's opinions of what is considered "rock" music. I'm not sure what I consider Korn, SlipKnot and bands like that.... but rock just doesn't seem right to me. My tastes tend to run more toward diverse, alternative artists than the metal side of rock, though.
