One of my friends brought a 2007 Westmalle Tripel to the beer tasting at my house on Thursday. It was grand.

Oh, I didn't think that you were. Glassware makes a stunning difference in the drinking experience. I am a glassware fiend. I've got all manner of goblets, tulips, snifters, pint glasses, globe glasses, pilsner glasses, weissebier glasses, etc.

For JuicesFlowing and Reaper16.
I am just back from the Tasting at the Anchor tonight. I met a couple buddies for the tasting and dinner. The Anchor had a special for the evening - skewered shrimp and chicken breast with a glaze made from the Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout with a salad with a vinaigrette made from Same Smith's Organic Cherry Ale. It was quite tasty. I had a Pilsner Urquel, which was a good clean drink to clear the palate between the tastes and the meal. First - they had ~200 people show up for this tasting, and the wait-staff was initially a bit overwhelmed. We had to wait for our meals and drinks for quite a while, but as the evening went on, things went smoother. Now for the beers. They served them from light to dark, and the representative from Merchant du Vin, importer for these brews, stood up and spoke about each one as they brought them out. They served about 2-3 oz. of each in a disposable plastic cup. In order: Samuel Smith's Organic Lager. This was a very clean tasting lager, with a crisp feel on the tongue, which I associate with carbonation. Not a strong flavor. Ayinger Brau-Weisse. This beer had some very fruity flavors - a strong ester note, that some people associate with banana. A creamy feel. A stronger flavor. Ayinger Ur-Weisse. This beer was very similar to the Brau-weisse, only with roasted hops. I really liked this one. The flavors from the brau were there, but they seemed more harmonious. The ester flavor didn't 'pop' as strongly. Creamy feel. Definitely recommend. Westmalle Tripel. A stronger, more powerful drink, with a noticeably higher alcohol content. A rich feel and flavor. Westmalle Dubbel. A maltier taste, and a little less alcohol. I really liked this one, as well. Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout. I didn't like this one as much, but to be fair - I have been 'off' stouts for a few months, after having a particularly bad one from the River City Brewery. The smokey flavor reminds me too much of the "Liquid Smoke".

Cool report.
I could never imagine being "off" stouts. That would kill me. |

I'm reasonably sure that your sig is in defiance of size regulations.

I can't begin to tell you how many fucking times I contacted Boulevard Brewery to distribute the Boulevard Wheat in Colorado and they always came back with a resounding "NO" They didn't want the "quality" to be diminished by the distribution. And now that I'm in Florida and no longer living in Colorado, they have the audacity to distribute it in Colorado! I suppose now, I'll have to petition them to distribute to Florida.

Chimay goblets seem somewhat easy to find at larger liquor stores for a reasonable or even cheap price. I picked up on a few years back pretty much for free in a sampler pack of their three varieties.
