Everyone but Page at OTA's today...

Except For Jarrad Page
by Joel Thorman on May 17, 2010 11:25 AM CDT in 2010 Campaign 15 comments

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/

I posted this morning a report from the Kansas City Star's Adam Teicher that LB Mike Vrabel would be attending the voluntary portion of OTAs, which begin today.

Well, here's another surprise from the Star's Kent Babb: Brian Waters is in attendance as well.

Last year both players worked out on their own until the mandatory minicamp in June.

The lone Chief not on the field is Jarrad Page.

Page has yet to sign his tender but, as I've said before, I don't think that's too big of a deal. He was also the last to sign his tender in 2009 not doing so until May 29th.

So, (almost) all present and accounted for. Not a bad start, right?

scroll down a bit for an interview from Waters today. Short 5 min or so clip twards the bottom in the video section. one from Haley too.

Hard to disagree with those who say his play has slipped and he could go downhill quick, but his attitude is much different from last year and he seems upbeat. Might have something to do with all of the competition on the OL now.

And I don't think we can rule out one of our corners, whether Leggett or Washington, moving over to the Free. I think i remembered they experimented a bit with those two late in the season.

If Berry's our SS he'd be the QB of the defense. Fine with me.

because i want him playing to his strength .... coverage.

let some other meathead play SS and slam himself into the RB/FB's and have a shelf life of 3 years. We want Berry in the secondary intercepting passes and hitting receivers for the next 10 years.

You've got one of the most multi-dimensional safeties to ever come out of the draft and you're going to put him in a position to play one-dimensionally in Center field?

The Strong Safety is the leader of the defense, a guy who absolutely has to be versatile, and can line up all over the field. A free safety can be any coverage guy who can play deep, has speed, and can play deep all the time. A much, much, much easier skill set to find.

A Strong Safety is a hell of a lot more important than Free Safety. I understand your point about injury history, but if we're using a #5 pick on a Safety, I want him to be the leader of this defense who gets to use every last bit of his talents, not a guy whose job is to act as the last line of defense.

we have a fundamental different idea about football so there is no point in discussing this any further.

The Strong Safety is easily the more important position of the two. The free safety's job is to cover and play center field. The strong safety has to be able to both hit and cover. It's rare you find a guy who does both really well. When you find that guy, it's a tremendous waste of talent to not use him in that way.

I want to put him in the position where he can make the most impact. I understand your point that he becomes more of an injury risk, but that's the risk I'm willing to take.

Because if you're talking about best use of his skill set, there isn't a shred of a doubt that he belongs at Strong Safety.

I'm just happy Berry is a Chief! FS or SS he is a Chief he is a Chief
I'm sure our coaches will figure out what will work best for him & the team. He may be asked to learn both FS & SS and depending on the game plan or situation that the coaches feel best. I do want to see him blitz the QB too. He is a play maker and a CHIEF
