Best BBQ Sauce in KC

Who has the best bbq sauce? Gates got beat 4-1 against Bryant's on the travel channel today.

What's your fav KC sauce? Today is a slow day here. I got my clip....I got my gun lets go find the haters.

I like Gates myself, but I have not tried any other sauce lol.

Gates is my personal favorite with Arthur Bryant's a second.

Non-KC - Sweet Baby Rays

Best non KC BBQ places - Jack's in Nashville and Rendezvous Ribs in Memphis. If you could put some Gates sauce on those, it would be amazing.

I'm partial to 3 Buddeez One of a Rind bbq sauce. Of course I make it, so this is sort of a shameless plug. It's not available at too many places other than McGonigles and a few Hyvees right now tho. Make with sweet pickled watermelon rinds as the thickener. Great on chicken and ribs.

Is that a store bought sauce? Or does it come from an actual BBQ joint?

This goes onto all of my meats when grilling. I don't use it as a side sauce after the meat is cooked, but I cook it "into" the meat. Great sauce.

Lawrence stores stopped carrying it, but I found a HyVee in Lenexa that still carries it. I'm trying to talk my friend who just opened a BBQ supply store in Lawrence to carry it. I'm sure he will.

Firebug and Blues Hog. Both sauces I use regularly. And both because of a thread a few years ago where both you and George recommended to try those two sauces. Excellent advice.

Gates replica sauce. It's a very close approximation to Gates original.

Quote:
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. salt
2 Tbsp. celery seed
2 Tbsp. ground cumin
2 Tbsp. ground cayenne pepper
2 Tbsp. garlic powder
1 Tbsp. chili powder
2 qt. ketchup
2 c. apple cider vinegar
1-1/2 tsp. liquid smoke (I leave this out)
1 tsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice

Directions

In a small bowl, combine sugar, salt, celery seed, cumin, red pepper, garlic powder, and chili powder. Set aside. In a large bowl, combine ketchup, vinegar, liquid smoke, and lemon juice. Add dry ingredients and mix until very well blended. Serve warm or at room temperature. Sauce may be stored in an airtight container in refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or in freezer for up to 6 months. Yield: about 3 quarts
This recipe gets better if you toast your spices and use homemade chili powder.

It's made by a fella in Lee's Summit. Small distribution. Mainly found locally around KC, and at a few choice BBQ stores and local supermarkets.
