Changes of Scenery: Turning a Bust into a Star
The Baldwin/Jenkins thread makes me wonder this.

What are some examples of guys who were busts for the team that drafted them, and then blossomed when they went to a new team?

I'm sure that some exist, but right now I'm having some trouble coming up with a good example. In particular, let's concentrate on high draft picks, but if you have others who languished and then became stars, throw them out there.

Favre flourished with his second team, but I'm not sure he was a bust with his first team. He just didn't play for them.

Priest Holmes flourished with his second team, but he was undrafted and had a 1,000 yard season with his first team.

Randy Moss flourished with New England after busting for Oakland, but he did pretty well with Minnesota before that.

Who ya got? Throw some names up here.

Justin Smith may not have been a bust, but he was not considered special with the Bengals. I think Glenn Dorsey is also going to flourish in San Fran.

I know he didn't flourish as a receiver like many expected him too, but he may have made up for it with return ability and also winning a superbowl MVP in '96.

Vinny Testeverde. Considered a disappointment in Tampa. Was never a star, but did have some solid seasons and won a few playoff games with the Browns and Jets.

Glenn Dorsey is getting beat on the depth chart by UDFA Ian Williams and he's been forced to play the nose in their 34. Dorsey isn't flourishing anywhere in that situation.

As well, considering that he's played a total of 66 NFL games and has only totaled a paltry four sacks, 159 tackles and a single forced fumble, I'd say the man has never lived up to the hype or draft status.

It always amazed me how much everyone went ape shit about that pick and how some still think that this guy is the guy that was supposed to be the next Warren Sapp, when, in reality, he's the next Ryan Sims. (Their stats are eerily similar to go along with their draft status.)

Joe Horn had a pretty damn good career for the 'Aints after getting buried on the "depth chart" in KC as a former 4th round pick.

Are we not counting Drew Brees as a bust in San Diego? Drafted 32 overall. Had some decent numbers, but nothing mind blowing. Maybe some injury problems IIRC. Got pushed out for Rivers.

Not that no one wanted him as a free agent, but it wasn't anything like the Manning saga last offseason. Either way, the Chargers seemed to be pretty good with letting him walk so they could play Rivers. I'd say he's a superstar in NO, which he certainly wasn't in SD.

He wasn't quite a bust. Not even close. He won games and went to the playoffs before he got traded to NO.
