Carl Peterson attends camp practice for first time since leaving Chiefs
http://espn.go.com/blog/kansas-city-...leaving-chiefs
Sunday's Kansas City Chiefs training camp practice brought a sight long overdue. Former president and general manager Carl Peterson was in attendance at camp for the first time since leaving the Chiefs after the 2008 season. Relations between the Chiefs and Peterson, awful during the years when Scott Pioli was their general manager, have warmed with the arrival of general manager John Dorsey and coach Andy Reid. Peterson called the difference "night and day." He attended a game at Arrowhead Stadium last year for the first time since his resignation or ouster, the fact being it was some of both. "I didn't have occasion to come back," Peterson said Sunday. "Scott Pioli never invited me. John Dorsey did." The relationship between Peterson and Dorsey goes way back. Peterson, when he was general manager of the USFL's Philadelphia Stars, drafted Dorsey when he was coming out of college at Connecticut. Dorsey instead signed with the NFL's Green Bay Packers. So when the Chiefs sent Peterson an invitation to attend Sunday's Alumni Day practice session, he accepted. Peterson lives in New York but happened to be in Kansas City this weekend. "We were all glad to see him today," chairman Clark Hunt said. It's nice to see the Chiefs opening their doors to Peterson. He's the most important figure in the team's 55-year history other than franchise founder Lamar Hunt. While the Chiefs never won or even reached a Super Bowl in their 20 seasons with Peterson, he acquired many of the best players in their history. He drafted a couple of eventual Hall of Famers in Derrick Thomas and Will Shields. Peterson deserves to be next year's entrant into the Chiefs Hall of Fame. Until he's selected, the team's Hall will have a void. "I'll leave that for another discussion," Hunt said of Peterson's chances of reaching the team's Hall of Fame. "Carl had a tremendous career and a big impact on the Kansas City Chiefs." |

Ironically, CP got exactly who they wanted. After that episode, it's unlikely there will be another GM lynch mob around here any time soon.

Dear Greatest Fans in the NFL:
Hi, It's me, your former unquestionably supreme and fearless leader, former longest tenured General Manager in Professional Sports, The King, Carl "Delano" Peterson. You may call me either "King Carl" or "Mister Peterson" whichever you prefer. Yes, I made the journey up to Missouri Western in St. Joseph. Why? Because much like Bob Ford's loyalty to Jesse James, I am loyal to John Dorsey. I respect the job he is doing and would never assume to be considered a threat to John, should he happen to falter, and Clark would need to find a suitable qualified replacement. I just wanted to get re-familiarized with the current crop of talent in the Chiefs stable. Plus, I really like black leather Stetson Hats, which I can get in St. Joseph, and I enjoy a nice Cherry Mash, which I also buy in St. Joseph. Sometimes I take a soak in my jacuzzi wearing only my black leather Stetson hat, with a bottle of Dick Vermeil wine, and a cherry mash. Life in my New York Penthouse suite can be quite enjoyable. I wanted to congratulate Dorsey on finding another San Fran QB castoff to lead a KC offense. As you know, this was my personal specialty. I brought in four of them, and look how successful that was! I have no doubt that unless the Chiefs face Buffalo, or Denver, or Indianapolis, or Miami, the team will do just fine in their next playoff appearance. And if you fans want to put me up on the Chiefs Ring of Honor, or build a statue of me, or name the stadium after me, or do all three, I suppose I'd allow for that. Quite Frankly, if Jack Steadman can be in the Ring of Honor, anything is possible. I mean that sincerely. Just remember, a Chiefs fan is born every minute. You are, and continue to be, the best fans in the NFL. Your Pal, Carl "Delano" Peterson Formerly LTGMIPS |
