First series with a little curl/flat concept. Slot sits right in the middle for a easy 5 yars, instead of forcing to JC.

2:25, look at him move in the pocket. Dumb throw but Alex never moves in the pocket that way.

Hill is damn sure faster and probably better than their #3 was

I think Foles could do some awesome stuff if given the chance.

There's just too much damn speed and talent on this offense to be playing conservative football.

Of course, people need to take it with a grain of salt, and realize every QB around the league miss guys a lot more than most people would suspect.

Need to look at what you posted still but I love when people post breakdowns on plays. Keep 'em coming- for Alex and anyone else!

only positive about Foles is he doesnt have a weird Rams/Eagles cult following of posters that joined this site cause of him. And that if he did play over Alex, then maybe the 49ers Alex Smith homers would just fade away into the darkness like the Pats Fraud Cassel ones did.

Good job putting together the clips you originally posted ! Much better than aimless back and forth and trying to discuss x or y play without the video, so thank you again!

My impressions of the clips you posted in the 1st 2 posts:

1. For a team that throws horizontally as much as we do, I can't for the life of me figure out why Smith seems to have 1 or 2 of these dump offs / outlet passes sail on him. Jamal just coming back and he could be throwing to a designated spot where the back is supposed to be, but it happens often enough that there's no way Alex isn't at fault his fair share.

2. Seriously? Fulton (?) escorted him right to Alex. I remember saying it in the GDT. That's on the line.

3. I wish he would have hit Maclin going across the middle moreso.

4. Totally on Alex. Presnap they show a blitz topside, Alex immediately barks up to the line. The Steelers fake the man showing and actually drop him into coverage. The line doesn't seem to have good communication or understanding their pickups with 2 backups in the interior and the entire line looks pensive and unsure about whose picking up who and seems to be poorly protecting a designated space.
However, flashing the overload by Pittsburgh clearly spooks Alex and he's never once comfortable in the pocket from the snap of ball. His feet are all over the place to the point he's never set to scan the field and make the throw.

5. Again, happy feet with that little stutter step and an arm pump so when he does throw his stance as the ball comes out is bunched up and the ball sails on him. Pocket was clean enough for him. He has to make that throw and on the mark.

6. Play broke down and a chewed up field they played a college game on the day before in the rain and wet field. Not what you hope to see, but hardly damning on Alex.

7. I don't like the play call, and Pittsburgh clearly sniffed out the play. Harris does free up, but Alex is going through his progressions and had already looked off that side of the field. Harris literally breaks open just as Alex pivots to look opposite field.

Not sure I agree with your #2 take. That whole sliding pocket to the left with backside protection from Ware looks like it is set up perfectly for Smith to set up and throw. If he does, Fulton has his guy in good position. But Smith looks like he bails out on the play too early.

Go back and look at every post that said "The offensive line isn't giving Smith enough time" or "Smith needs more weapons".

Now substitute Smith for Cassel and the exact same statements were repeated ad nauseum from 2009 to about October of 2012.

IMO the line is in good shape and Alex's play makes it much worse than it seems. The receivers are good with the possibility to be very deadly with the right QB. The backs are elite. The tight ends are top shelf.

Alex hasn't responded to defenses catching up to his style.

It seems like defenses are somewhat conceding the deeper passes to take away the qbs ability to run with it and he's simply not taking advantage of that.

Just another ignorant comment. Smith's record vs. Cassel's? Take their 6 best seasons of stats and put them next to each other...it's not even close. But to validate your argument that Smith stinks you compare him to Cassel.

Smith and Reid have turned this franchise around, only small minded fans like yourself think otherwise.

Amazing. Same passing concepts they run now. Crazy how foles keeps his eyes downfield even when moving out of the pocket, and takes chances with 1v1's deep.
