Anyone trying to dispute Houston's quality of play is just reading the stat sheet... at the beginning of the year I was curious as to what was up with him, and I've watched all-22 of the games this year.

He still dominates when given opportunities to do so, but he's struggling to pile up the mega sack numbers for two reasons. 1) He isn't getting any consistent help from other pass rushers and 2) the coverage has been pretty poor.

Why do you think that Bosa and Ingram are both racking up sacks like crazy? They feed off of each other and it allows them both to have ample 1v1s. Also, their coverage has been better.

I pretty much had an all 22 view from my seats. Certainly could be wrong but I didn't see much of anything from him going against an undrafted rookie. Actual sacks aren't really my concern.

I watched it last night with a focus on Houston. The truth is the defense isn't getting in near enough 3rd & longs to allow the rushers to really go after the QB. Also, he's still dropping into coverage WAY too much. There's no other threat opposite of him so he gets chipped by backs and TEs a ton. Eli, much like Carr did earlier in the season, got rid of the ball extremely fast on Sunday.

And despite all of these factors, Houston still managed 5 QB pressures against NY. He still made a few tremendous plays in run defense. I promise, he's still a force. He's just got a lot of things going against him right now.

Between Houston, Berry, Peters, and Jones, I see plenty to build upon. Nit picking Houston or any of these guys at this point is just pure horse shit. When all four are present, and assuming Veach can add more to the roster, even Sutton will be hard pressed to **** it up.
That said, I'm really ****ing tired of 3-4 Sutton and wish he would ride off to the Land of Metamucil, please.

Nothing he can do. I've seen the old man try several different schemes, including 4 linemen up front.

Dorsey ****ed this coaching staff over hard. When names like Frank Zombo and Josh Mauga are STILL potential starters on your goddamn roster heading into training camp after 3 years and you have no answer, your ass deserves to get escorted out of the building.

The worst problems on this defense are pass rush and corner. Dorsey's entire 2014 draft was about fixing this shit and he drafted two pussies made of glass that deserve nothing but a swift kick in the ass and a sentence to the pit of mysery.

Seriously. If Dee Ford and Philip Gaines were even league average at their positions with the ability to stay on the field, where are we right now? We're probably nowhere near as bad as we've been.

Thankfully Veach made some solid moves in Ragland and KPL. At least they are competent starters with some upside. It took Veach 1 month to find a better ILB than Dorsey did in 4 tries through 4 ****ing years.

You are correct. When there is absolutely no direct threat from the other side of Houston, o-lines can much more easily neutralize Houston or at least significantly slow him down.

Agreed, though I still vomit at Sutton's cheese-dick 3-4.

There was a recent article somewhere that showed we have better pass defense overall when Houston drops in coverage. And it wasn't even close.

With no coverage, we can't get the 2-3 seconds needed to even mount pressure on the QB much.

This team misses Berry and Poe, a lot, IMO. Gaines is a bust, DJ is a shadow of his old self and the rest of the CBs all have warts. Jones and Houston are it.

it shows you how bad the ILBers are if your OLB pass rusher is your best coverage linebacker. They really need a good athletic ILB that can actually play and stop the run and cover the pass to make Suttons stupid scheme work as best as it should.

They could rush Houston more if they had another LBer worth a crap on this team
