I don't use weed but recently went to a dispensary in San Diego to buy CBD rub for a back spasm. It was like going into a candy store. Music was playing, everyone seemed stoked. There were tons of products on display. I could have spent an hour there talking to people and checking out stuff. I get the appeal. Just not my thing.

I think these experiences will be what draw people in to recreational use. People who just assume spending that kind of money is what it costs. A 100mg Kiva bar gets you, what ten highs for $25? Doesn't seem like a bad deal when a fair bottle of wine is $20.

A few musings:

1. The prices will no doubt go down. Go look at pricing history in Colorado...

2. The THC strength of the current “flower” is so much more than it was in the Golden Age of Cheech and Chong popularity. Flower has become something where a simple hit or two gets you where a shared joint got you back in the day. I think overusing, not overdosing is a big issue as far as anxiety and paranoia go. Microdosing of flower is often necessary to avoid these issues and folks aren’t clear on it.

3. For the value seekers out there: Many Colorado dispensaries sell “Shake” or “Trim”, “Popcorn Buds” for $40-$60 an ounce. For those not familiar with it, ITV is made up of the small pieces of buds along with some leafs that fall to the bottom of display jars. Think of it like the crumbles at the bottom of a bag of chips. A lot of connoisseurs look down their nose at it but it still packs a huge punch and is a great value. Once this works it’s way into the Illinois offerings, likely a few months minimum, visiting a dispensary there might make sense for those who are a little cash strapped.
