I played college golf. It was NAIA though, so like glorified intramural. We won one tournament during my two years! We were not what you call - good. We actually were D2 my freshman year but it was an expansion program so we pretty much got rolled every event until we were NAIA my sophomore season.

How old are you now? Would love to get down to a 0.6. Lowest I've ever been was a 1.8 when I was 17. I've told a few golf teaching pros I will pay them $10,000 bonus if they can guarantee me that they can get to scratch but none of them have taken me up on the offer. I don't think they see the potential lol

61 and I'm losing some distance.

You'll have to make the putts to get to scratch.

I hit 17/18 greens today and shot 71. One of best scores all year for me. I'm afraid that's as good as it can get for me. The funny part is my swing really isn't in the correct position at P6 like most good players but I make it work by kind of walking forward on my downswing. Works for me though. I'm such a kook.

When did you notice you started losing distance? I feel like I've already lost some since I hit about the same distance as I did when I was 18 but today we have better clubs and balls.

I was still moving it pretty good when I was 53/54 and then I didn't really play much for the next 5 years. I started back in at 59 and had lost a little and since then I've lost a little more. Not hitting a ball for three months last winter didn't help and then screwing up my hips made it worse. If I can get my hips straightened out I think I can gain a little back. I went to the chiropractor today for my initial visit and x-rays. Next Thursday I go back for some adjustments. I'm crossing my fingers that it will correct my hips that are out of alignment. Then maybe I can get back to playing from the ground up and gain some power back.

The 3 keys to being a scratch golfer:
1. No 3 putts whenever possible
2. Don't turn a bogey into triples
3. You must give yourself 6-7 TRUE birdie attempts per round

Amateurs have high handicaps for the opposite of above:
1. 3 and 4 putts often
2. Try to make a once-in-a-lifetime shot from middle of woods towards the green and make an 8 instead of a 5.
3. Never have any birdie attempts inside 25'.

The key for any amatuer is to find wasted strokes. They add up quick.

Great score for sure but 17/18 with a very good putter would be a 67 or 68.

Practice more or change putters.

Easy to hit greens at Falcon Lakes. They are so big so that is a part of it.

You should have seen how bad I putted before I went to the armlock. I was the worst putter on my HS team of our top 8 and I was the worst putter on my entire NAIA college team, by alot. I've learned to accept who I am and how good I can be.

BTW. Where do you play in Scottsdale? They have obv so many amazing tracks I hear.

Played a lot in my 20's and early 30's. Started back up in my 50's. Always had a bad slice due to inside takeaway and loop on the downswing. Took lessons, things got much worse from there. Have so many thoughts going through my head that I have no idea what to do. Have the yips on putts and chips. Have no idea if I'm going to hit a pull hook or push slice so I just aim straight in the hope that I will randomly hit it straight.

People tell me I have a beautiful practice swing however once the ball is placed in front of me, I swing like I'm in concrete shoes. If I drink enough to forget about everything, I play pretty well.

I change my grip, try different setups, etc. Everything helps for a while and then the old inside takeaway and over the top loop comes back. My divot with no ball is down the target line and with a ball goes 30 to 45 degrees to the left. I hit everything really high and weak because the club face is wide open. If the club is square, I hit a horrible pull that's usually OB.

I'm seriously ball bound.

I tried waggling to keep everything moving. It worked pretty well the first time however when I play with other people, I get so nervous about playing badly that I just play badly. I'm so far inside my own head, I can't find my way out. My whole game is one giant YIP.

Everytime I go for lessons I get told I do t need lessons and keep getting told have a scratch swing but I struggle to break 80 , my issues are mental and the fact I play maybe 18 holes a year with a cottage and kids who play rep soccer and hockey all summer I don’t get a chance to play much maybe next year .I was probably a single digit handicap when I was around 16 I think my best best score was 4 under 66 , I took my first lesson when I was 37 because while I can’t miss on the range I can’t hit a fairway to save my life or a green lol I will shoot a 79 with like 4-5 GIR people get frustrated lol when the do see me the whole hole and we end up getting it’s the same score.

He needs to change the way he thinks

No lag putts , try and hole everything, aim small miss small.

It’s better to believe you have the right line than actually have the right line .

Remove distance from the equation, you brain knows how hard to hit it , like a basketball shot use feel for the distance part.

Don’t be afraid to miss , lol oh could hit a perfect putt and still miss , imperfections in the grass etc.. when you miss don’t blame your self a missed putt is never your fault you had some bad luck.

I never three putt .
