Initial Waiver Wire claims to end in five minutes…

Good luck BV! (Sucks being at the end of line for the first 3 weeks. That rule needs some modification imho. ~ Title edit: Initial 1st day period ends, not begins.)

Teams are calling around prior to cut downs to see who is available , trying to trade guys and asking about certain players. So GMs probably have a feel for who is most likely to be claimed from their cuts.

A hybrid of Herring and Kaindoah might be decent. Herring has no tools, Kaindoah has no instincts.

As it stands, I wouldn't bother with EITHER guy on as much as a practice squad.

We forget sometimes (I know I do) that the practice squad isn't just our minor league developmental roster.

It's a group of guys they NEED to have out there during the week giving looks to the guys on the roster. They need those bodies out there who can be a reasonable proxy for NFL competition.

I don't honestly think the Chiefs believe Powell will ever amount to anything. They're not keeping him with the expectation that he's going to suddenly become a top 3 or 4 receiving option. They're just keeping him around because he knows where the dining facilities are and when practice starts. He's a guy they can toss out there to give McDuffie some reps.

Think of him as a AAAA player. Teams don't keep those guys around because they expect them to make a difference in the show. They keep them around because SOMEONE needs to play catch with the blue chip phenom in the bus leagues that they hope to have on the squad soon. And like any minor league team - some guys are Nuke LaLoosh - others are Crash Davis.

Some of these PS guys they keep because they hope they can contribute in a big way some day (Remigio might be an exmaple). But Cornell Powell is 'organizational depth' as they say in MLB. He's Crash. He's here on inertia and familiarity.

I find it kind of annoying they could have claimed Trevis Gipson to replace Herring and didn't do it...

That was totally random and weird, though, and you don't see that kind of stuff happening here anymore. Usually 5th rounders and up are locks.

I do still wonder what happened with Russell. That was insane.

I haven't found anything saying a team has claimed Shane Buechele, anyone else aware of it?

It's a shame those interceptions were not his fault and it caused him to drop off the table.

Anyone disagree?

Yes.

The first interception was absolutely brutal and 100% his fault. And he spent the entire pre-season throwing hospital balls. Against a backup that gets your WR killed. Against a starter it gets you picked off (and did).

He doesn't read the play quickly so his timing is a step behind. And it gets his receivers murdered - at best. He'll have plenty of 'drops' that turn into INTs because he's throwing to guys as their window is closing rather than opening and creating exceptionally high degree of difficulty catches that often yield bad outcomes.

At this point he's in his 3rd season in Reid's offense. If his processing is still this slow, it's going to stay this slow. He's a non-entity.

I'd bring Oladokun back before Buechele. I don't understand the fascination with the guy. I don't think he'll ever be as much as a regular backup in this league. I just don't see anything to him.

If they want a young backup they'll have to actually use a pick on one instead of trying to find undrafted guys.

Yeah - he'd be the guy I put back on the PS and give him a year of reps on the PS to get into the flow of the system.

Shane got his shot and I didn't see the necessary development. It's Oladokun's time, IMO. Give him his shot and if he doesn't develop, onto the next guy.
