Rumors: cleveland looks to trade more players: Josh Gordon

Josh Gordon Trade Rumors: Latest Buzz and Speculation Surrounding Browns WR
BY JOSEPH ZUCKER
(FEATURED COLUMNIST)
ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2013

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports
The Cleveland Browns' fire sale may yet continue as the team has reportedly made wide receiver Josh Gordon available.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Browns are willing to part with Gordon along with fellow wide receiver Greg Little:

ESPN's Adam Caplan adds that Gordon has actually been on the trade block for "several weeks":

Gordon is returning to the field in Week 3 after serving a two-game suspension at the start of the regular season, following a violation of the league's substance-abuse policy. He came into the season with some lofty expectations after his rookie year, in which he caught 50 passes for 805 yards and five touchdowns.

This news is exactly what Browns fans won't want to hear. It comes the same week as Cleveland essentially gave up on the 2013 season just two weeks into the season, first naming Brian Hoyer the starting quarterback over the banged-up Brandon Weeden and backup Jason Campbell, and then trading Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts.

For a fanbase as tortured as the Browns' it will hurt to see yet another talented offensive player be pushed out the door.

Only 22 years old, Gordon will continue to improve, and he's the kind of player a team can build a receiving corps around. The fact that Cleveland is thinking about offoading him is arguably more surprising than the Richardson trade.

However, if Cleveland is really in rebuild mode, it would make sense to cash in now on its most marketable asset and prepare for the future. The trio of Joe Banner, Michael Lombardi and Rob Chudzinski have a definite direction they're taking this team. They're not afraid to burn some bridges in the short term if it helps the long term, either.

Only time will tell if the plan works out.

Or, if Denver makes a move or more than 1.

Major chatter for potential moves by Denver before the deadline include and I think would be a nightmare if they were to pull off, because Elway strikes me as a guy with no problem in doubling down and knows the window of opportunity.

Jared Allen (DE) Vikings
Jarius Byrd (S) Bills
MJD. (RB) Jaguars

The 1st 2 I really don't want to happen.
I am scared Denver's gona get Allen or Bird

Funny that Denver, Indianapolis, and New England are all rumored to be involved here...what do those franchises have in common?

You'll know when/if the Chiefs got involved when sources name a "mystery team"

That mystery is always Andy Reid.

Were you at the game today? I only ask b/c I know how little of the receivers you get to see on TV. The game went to earlier this year, it was crazy to me how often guys were open and Alice ignored them only to get sacked or throw it away. Then of course the guys who watched at home think you're making things up when you call him on it.

Regardless of Alex smith, Gordon is a major talent and getting him would only help this team. That's what is so confusing about the Alex bitching. It's like no one wants to improve or do anything as long as he's under center. Like we should just forfeit the rest of our games because we don't have an elite QB.

So the Eagles and Packers both tried trading for Gonzalez in 08. Maybe we realistically could try trading for him now... Or at least someone.

Sad part is he would be double teamed over here because smiths inability to throw to wide receivers.

I see what you're getting at. If you take the first letter of every word in the team's cities and put them together it spells DINE.

Who, more than most, likes to "dine?"

It is obvious: Andy Reid.

Will Gonzalez be around much longer? The trading deadline is at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and a persistent rumor is that the Falcons might trade him back to Kansas City, which improved to 8-0 on Sunday.

“It’s up to them,” Gonzalez said. “If that’s what they want to do and that’s in the best interest of the team, then that’s up to them. It isn’t going to come from me. I’m not the one asking for a trade. I love Atlanta. I love playing with these guys.”
