Prior to the trade deadline in July, 2011 I met my brother (who lives in St. Louis) in Cincinnati to catch a Cards game there (they won). Shortly after the Cards traded away a young CFer for pitching help. Of course we all know the Cards eventually went on a late season streak to get the WC and eventually win the World Series.
This past July, I met my brother in Cincinnati to catch a game just prior to the trade deadline (it was the only game they won that weekend). Later they traded away a young CFer for pitching help. Just saying... |

Anyone ever go to a baseball game by themselves? This weekend is probably my last opportunity to make it to STL to bid Albert farewell.
But man tickets and hotels are expensive as all hell. Plus a 4 hour car ride by myself sounds about as boring as boring can be. |

Hit a grand slam off the Cubs. But, you should go. May see a positive moment that you can say, I was there.

Every hotel in downtown STL is north of $300 for the night. I know I'm paying a premium for a good series, a Saturday game, and a farewell tour but it's looking like it will run me $600+ to make all the arrangements. I've seen Albert play many times. I'm still pissed the KC series was in April during shitty weather |

If you're trying to skip an extra $100-$200, you're better off staying in the county that's within 20 minutes of driving time or accessible via Metro in the suburbs (ala Maplewood, Clayton, University City) or stay somewhere in the city but not downtown (Central West End, Midtown). And going out near the stadium sucks. BPV is ass. Wheelhouse and Tin Roof are fine. But if I'm going out in the city/downtown, would just stick to those two bars or go near Washington Avenue or Soulard or CWE. It's pretty remarkable how underwhelming downtown night life is (I say this as having grown up in the area) as options are limited or it's a ghost town. |

Company meeting in stl. They gave us all tickets, but they were nosebleed. I wasn’t crazy about sitting with a bunch of stuffed suits, so I contacted my uncle, who hooked me up with a decent box seat with free food and beer. Watched the game, then staggered back to the hotel. Beat sitting with those losers. sec

I don't mind ballpark village for pregame/post game stuff but I don't really care for the "actual nightlife" of the place. I feel too old for it and it's just a mini Power and Light district which i don't like either. I haven't been to soulard since I was in my 20s. I'd probably have some drinks so I don't want to be driving anywhere and after the game is over I'd head to a casino to play poker. |

I don't even know if Luimere has a poker room anymore. Last I heard it closed because of Covid, then they were kicking around the idea of re-opening it then they rebranded the entire place to Horseshoe STL.
I might be stuck with having to head to St Charles to play now and Ameristar and Hollywood were $360 and $500 that night. |
