Veteran DT Mike Pennel is re-signing with the #Chiefs on a one-year deal, source said. Had other offers, but wanted to return to the team he helped win a Super Bowl last month with his INT-causing hit on Jimmy Garoppolo.

They wanted that other DT (Ivey iirc) to play because of his pass rush potential in a game against a mostly running attack.

After that game, they were straight fire, though.

Is that the official statement from one of the coaches, or just speculation?

Pennel was signed only 2 weeks prior and played against Minnesota. The Chiefs have a pretty conservative approach when it comes to player health. Maybe the dude was just not ready, physically, to play two games in a row since he was signed off the street in week 8 or 9.

Pennel has played every game since. A rather large stretch that one week couldn't be handled by Pennel but no problem since then.

I think I remember Spags saying in a Presser after the game that he thought they would pass a lot so Spags didn't think we would need Pennel.

Spags said as much in an interview after the game. Iirc it was Monday or Tuesday and not right after the game.

They don't have to send the deal in to the league office right away just because the deal is done. It can just stay in limbo for awhile as veach continues to work with the other guys.
