My hopes are tied to the idea that #95's Bat Down skills are peaking at the right time.
Interior pressure. Run blitz (don't wait - attack) from the LBs. Jam the receivers hard. If they get a catch, drill them and separate them from the ball. Etc. Etc. The key to this game is actually the same as it ever was this year; if the Chiefs can start fast and get a lead and if we avoid penalties and turnovers, we win. We should take heart in the fact that 99% of all football fans throughout the entire world will be pulling for the Chiefs. That's a lot of mojo. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if we pick Tommy Two Yards twice in this game. FAX |

Gotta send some blitzes. Brady was pretty bad against the blitz this year. Get on the receivers at the line, and key the backs.
In their destruction of the Chargers, Brady may as well have been checkdown Alex. Very few throws actually went past 6 yards through the air. That bullshit soft zone aint gonna cut it this week.

Take chances on 3rd down. Don't let them have 12-play drives and convert 4 3rd downs.

NE has no vertical threat. The can really only stretch the field of off playaction. Otherwise there offense is dink and dunk to the RB's in the flats, and WR's on shallow crossers. Last week, only 9 of Brady's 44 attempts were beyond 7 yards of the LOS.
So, the first key to slowing NE is stopping the run, because stopping the run renders the playaction less effective. Early in the game, I think the defensive line (and particularly Jones) needs to occupy NE OL, instead of trying to penetrate, and allowing NE's blockers to get to the second level (where KC is most deficient). This appeared to be KC's strategy early on last week, and it was successful. Then once KC got up, they started to focus more on rushing up field after the QB. If KC can do this to some degree of success, I'd play press cover 1 (since they aren't a threat to go over your head), to disrupt the timing of NE's short passing game, and use the extra defender in the box to blow up the shallow routes, and slow developing screens. Then once KC gets up 2 scores, unleash the hounds... |
