Is Tamba Hali even on this team?

So far he's everything I thought he would be. A smaller, more mobile Eric Hicks. An effort guy with limted quickness and pass rush skills. Did his number even get called yesterday? The week before? Will it ever?

Is it unfair? Hell no. It's up to everyone on this team to perform well at their job to win a championship. The offense was putting up 30+ points a game, but that didn't keep people from bitching about Sammie Parker or Kris Wilson. Now the defense plays it's first credible game in 5 years and the rookie is immune to criticism?

The makeup of this team has changed. The pressure is on the defense to be a large reason this team wins. Herm said that from the get-go. How many sacks does this team have this year? 1? 2? Youn think expecting a little more from our 1st round DE is unrealistic?
You are just being igonorant. Hali had a tackle for loss, a tackle for no gain, and he was getting good pressure most of the game. He also did a good job against the bootleg the few times Denver tried it to his side. You do realize we held Denver to nine points right?

Sometimes I wonder about these type of threads. There hasn't been a single person here other that agrees with donkhater. You'd think that, when faced with unanimous opposition to his point, he'd back down.

Makes me think he's just trying to get a rise out of us.

I agree with Donkhater, Tamba Hali is a BUST!!! 2 games and all he's managed is 11 tackles - and only one of those for a loss. If a first round pick can't get a sack in 2 games, we don't need him.

We should cut him now.

Really? There is another thread on the front page bitching about how KC has only two sacks and one turnover and nearly everyone is agreeing with him. I mearly point out that the DE's aren't going to be the ones to do it because of the their lack of talent.

They hustle. I like that. Never said they didn't. Both are pretty good against the run. But above average pass rushers they are not. Players to game plan around they are not. If this fan base wants this defense to go to the next level, then in addition to whatever upgrades KC get at DT, they need a pass-rusher on the outside. It's a solid D-Line to have an average defense with.

Explain why Allen with 20 sacks his first two years in the league isn't above average?

I think he is positioning himself for an "I told you so. I was right and all of you blasted me for it", down the road somewhere.

Allen and Hali are just two more bright spots on this defense and a big part of why the defense isn't looking like past-digested food processed through the smell factory.

Hali (ever since he was drafted) seems to be a DE that will give you the solid play, but not much more. Not enough to bring the defense to the next level.

It's not his fault. He is who he is. I guess I'm just frustrated knowing the shortcomings of this team and also knowing that they have no one on the roster to make up for it. Including the one guy who should.

In what part of yesterdays game did the chiefs utilize a bend but don't break strategy?

On Hali, imagine yourself a guy that just left college and is now in the pros. The speed of the game is quite different. Every OT you go up against is as good or better than the best ones you faced in college. Add in, not only are you asked to hit a 3 pt at one end and make a decision at the snap whether it's a pass and you need to blitz or a run and you need to go to the RB. Instead, the HC pulls you aside and gives you the responsibility of reading the O, making adjustments not just for yourself but others and also has you lining up at different spots all over the D line.

I'm impressed that Hali is at least looking up to speed out there. He's got 11 tackles - 2 off the team leader Allen who has 13. No, he isn't headed to the probowl yet, but he's only played 2 games and he's playing well enough that he has already been named a starter, and not only has he kept his starting spot, he's kept his backup completely off the field. How many others picked in the first round are getting that much time or production? Let's look and see...

1 Mario Williams, DE Hou the first pick, only has 5 tackles and 0 sacks.
2 Reggie Bush RB, NO backup 72 yards rushing.
3 Vince Young QB Tenn rating of 58 and seen little PT behind Kerry Collins
4 Furgeson T Jets is at the bottom of the depth chart and played in 1 game
5 Hawk in GB has 12 tackles an no sacks at LB
6 Davis, TE for SF has 5 catches
7 Huff, S Oak, has 5 tackles
8 Witner, S Bills has 15 tackles 1 int
9 Sims LB Det 17 tackles
10 Leinhart, QB AR Hasn't seen the field
11 Cutler, QB Den Hasn't seen the field
12 Ngata DT Balt 0 tackles, 1 Int
13 Wimbly LB (DE in college) CLE Backup, 7 tackles, 1 int.
14 Bunkley DT Phi backup 3 tackles
15 Hill CB Rams Backup 4 tackles, 1 Int
16 Allen S Mia backup, hasn't done anything yet
17 Greenway LB Min - not even on depth chard. No game time
18 Carpenter LB Dallas. Backup, hasn't done anything yet
19 Comartie CB SD Backup, 3 tackles
20 Hali - see above
21 Marony RB NE 151 yards rushing 1 td
22 Lawson LB SF 9 tackles 2 sacks
23 Joseph G TB hasn't seen the field
24 Joseph CB Cinci backup 5 tackles
25 Holmes WR Pit backup 1 catch for 5 yards (Pitts plays second game tonight)
26 McCargo DT Bills 1 backup 1 tackle
27 Williams RB Car backup 72 yards rushing
28 Lewis TE Jacksonville 3rd on dept no games (Plays 2nd game tonight)
29 Mangold C Jets 2 starts
30 Addai RB Ind Backup 108 yards rushing
31 Jennings CB Sea 3rd on depth chart 4 tackles
32 Kiwanuka DE Giants Backup 2 tackles

Looking at that list, there are a few that have produced better then Hali - but NONE that play D Line

***I did find it interesting that with Witner from the Bills, ESPN's draft tracker last spring said he was one of the biggest reaches they have seen and so far his production is one of the best of the draft.
