ESPN's Clayton: Chiefs-Bills trade at #11?

The Bills are reportedly looking at Michigan State WR Devin Thomas with the No. 11 overall pick. ESPN's John Clayton says Buffalo, which runs a Cover 2 scheme, is also eyeing cornerbacks with the selection. Clayton also suggests that the Bills might try to move out of the pick, possibly in a trade with Kansas City.

IMO, the only teams that I'd worry about taking an OLman:

Denver
Carolina
Chicago

And Carolina would be foolish not to take either Harvey or Mendenhall with their pick if available.

One, if not two of those OLmen will be there.
I could see NE taking Albert and Baltimore taking a linemen if Ryan is gone.

The nightmare scenario at 17 is if Albert, Clady (who I don't like), Otah, and Williams are all gone and McKelvin, Rogers-Cromartie and Jenkins are gone, plus Harvey is also gone.

If we were picking in the top 16, we'd be guaranteed one of those guys even if Rivers falls out of the top 16 (which I think could happen)

But at 17, I think there's an outside chance that the top 5 OTs and the top 3 CBs are all off the board.

That would leave us choice of:
-- Taking a chance on Talib a CB.
-- Reaching for a linemen like Cherilus
-- Wasting a pick on Merling
-- Or surprising everyone by taking a WR or even a QB.

I think I'd rather see us move up from 17 to make sure we get one of those OL or CBs. I suppose by the 10th pick we'll have a good idea whether someone will fall down to us (if Rivers is still on the board after New Orleans, then I'll be worried).

Highly likely that McFadden, Dorsey, Gholston, Ellis, Long, Ryan, Albert, Clady, Williams, Otah, McKelvin, Rogers-Cromartie, Jenkins, Harvey are all gone with teams passing on Rivers, Mendenhall, and Stewart.

Right. That's why we need to hear two names from out of Rivers, Mendenhall, Stewart, or Devin Thomas or a surprise name (like the Lions picking Mayo or AZ going for Felix Jones or something like that).

With the players we have we could get Gholson, trade up and get Cromartie, change to more of a man to man/blitzing scheme like we had in the 90s and imo we'd have a pretty damn good defense

Gholston, DJ, and Edwards can all get to the qb and Cromartie would get his share of picks

Gholston seems like a better fit for a 3-4 than a 4-3. I realize the guy could be the next Merriman or Ware, but I think there's also a chance that he could be a disappointment because GMs are looking for that new prototype of player. I'm not really sure who I'd rather have if Gholston or Ellis are on the board, but I wouldn't be at all disappointed if Ellis is the pick.

Play makers make big plays regardless of the system...we could use him in the same way we used DT..

How picks would that jump cost the Chiefs?
Can someone explain to me why in the fuck we want to draft a guy who wasn't good enough to play LT IN COLLEGE, to play LT in the NFL?

Am I missing something here? This guy scares the shit out of me. Sounds like typical pre-draft hype for a guy who'll bust in the pro's.

It seem a lot of teams think he's a LT. IMO, he's a safer pick than Clady even if he's just left at guard.

Who says you have to draft him to play LT?

I know people say that you shouldn't draft guards in the top half of the draft, but if Will Shields were sitting there at 5 this year, I'd draft him in a heartbeat. (not that Albert is the next Will Shields, but if he's a great NFL guard, I have no problem using a high pick on him).

Yes, that's just my opinion. He's never faced players of the caliber that Jake Long has. The guy just screams bust to me.

I think it's too high, but I understand your point about Will.

What scares me is alot of folks seem to want to try him at LT, which reminds me of when we drafted college freaking safeties to play corner in the NFL.

Understood.

I'm just more comfortable drafting a guy to play the position he played in college.
