And I'm not even a Cassel fan, but he's going to be given more than 1 season to show he is or is not the guy.

I know all the bullshit arguments that will come forth.

"He's not a rookie, he's a seasoned vet" blah blah ****ing blah. I don't give a shit. I'm talking about reality. They gave him 60 mil. Even if Cassel never improves on this season (which I actually think he will, even if I'm not a fan), GM's don't admit to failures that quickly. Pioli will give him every chance to prove that he's right. He drafted him, he signed him to a 60 million dollar contract. Those of you you think that Pioli is going to turn right around and draft a QB with our first pick are ****ing morons. Yes, you are. It wasn't until his third season that he became so accurate.

Cassel was a 63% guy last year in New England. This year even with all of the ridiculous amount of drops he's still at 55%. Take away half the drops and he's probably in the 58-59% range. I think he has a long ball accuracy issue. On the short and intermediate routes? No.

He def holds onto the ball too long, however in New England he improved in every category as the season went, including getting sacked. He was sacked 28 times in the first 8 games, and 19 times in the last 8. So the guy got better.

This year he's in a new system, behind a bad line, with no running game early, and WR's who can't catch. If you can't show me a QB who is going to look great with all of those issues let me know. Either way, I'm not a Cassel fan but the guy has had the deck stacked against him for the get go here. I am willing to give the guy another year.

His (Brees) completion percentage wasn't due to a lack of accuracy.

They were due to the fact that he was making bad decisions because of his inability to make good reads.

When he did make good reads, his balls were perfectly placed.

I don't know all, but I do know that that same O-Line, with Jordan Black as the only upgrade gave up fewer than half the sacks in Shaub's first season as the starter.

Well first off, it's a reach to say you can draw back on exactly what a guys percentage problems were from that many years ago.

Second, you're saying that he got better at reading defenses with more playing time? I think this is the case for most smart QB's. And I don't think Cassel is a dumb guy. So again, I'm willing to give the guy at least another year to improve.

I wonder what this board thought about Trent Green after his first season in KC in a system he was familiar with? I bet that would be a hoot to look back on.

I can draw back on that time, because I live in california, and not only saw almost all the Charger games, but listened to the interviews on the the San Diego sports talk radio with Marty, AJ Smith and Brees.

Brees spent his entire offseason working on film study to learn and improve his ability to make reads.
Both Marty and AJ Smith were ready to move on, but Brees was determined to prove he could play at the NFL level.

And Cassel's big problem is a lack of accuracy beyond 10 yards, even when he does make a good read.

If that were the case then they never draft Phillip Rivers. Brees looked like shit his first 3 years in the league. I don't care if the reason was because he used too much vicks on his chest at night before games, he looked like shit. Rivers was drafted because Brees was not panning out to that point.

Either way, it doesn't matter. Cassel is going to get his chance here.

I feel pretty much the same now as I did then.

It was a mistake ot trade a first round pick for him.

That's the same as I felt about Joe Montana.

The only thing that would have made those decisons better is if the Chiefs had a young QB to develop behind them.
