The road was evidently busy enough that they built a damn pedestrian overpass. The city spent thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of dollars building a bridge expressly designed to keep people from just wandering out into this road. I would imagine they did so for a reason.

But once again - you have the market cornered on being oblivious, so I'm not sure why I waste my time.
