Haley going to run conservative Offense

Matt Cassel - QB - Chiefs

Chiefs HC Todd Haley wants to run "a meat and potatoes offense" in 2011.
That's good news for Jamaal Charles' fantasy stock, and bad news for Matt Cassel's. Former OC Charlie Weis reportedly left because he wanted "to use a lot of shotgun and spread formations while jazzing up the offense," while Haley wanted to remain conservative. After it became public that Weis was leaving last season, Cassel posted a 0:5 TD-to-INT ratio in two games.

completely unfair imo

It's perfectly acceptable and even expected imo for fans to speculate about what their offense is going to be like after they lose their offensive Coordinator.

what you are some kind of buddist, zen mother ****er who just says Que sera sera?

This isn't news or even a sourced rumor. Just some dudes idea of whats going to happen. We all have ideas what will happen. Why should we care what this one blogger thinks? Why does it warrant its own thread? Have they been right in the past? Well respected?
That's not a standard any thread has had to meet in the past. Quit whining just because you don't like the message.

As I said, a link where the information came from is sufficent. I think that is the acceptable standard here.

I'm not sure if the notion of being conservative on offense meshes with the reality of Haley's propensity of being aggressive and going for it on fourth downs.

Whatever the case, we have to get better at converting third downs...

I haven't read this entire thread, so my apologies to all and in advance.

I don't agree with this "article", though. I do not believe that Haley is capable of shutting off the cat burger side of his personality. Once a man has gone cat burger, the only question left is whether or not you're also getting the hot apple turnover.

That said, it does jibe with reports of the Chiefs meeting with so many offensive lineman at the Senior Bowl, etc. If they're really wanting to run the ball effectively, regardless of down and distance, they'll need to replace the center, right guard and right tackle this year, just for starters.
Why would they have to replace Lilja? They'll need to replace Weigmann, but if they are going with a maulball philosophy, B Rich is well suited for that.

What he's not suited for is pass blocking.

Lilja was a great run blocker last year.

This doesn't jive well with the rumor that he took over play calling of the second half of the playoff game, where he didn't run the ball at all.

If I was the head coach/OC I would certainly go with an offense that needed at least 4 good wideouts when my team has one and a mediocre o-line. Lets get the QB killed. What the hell aye?

Bottom line: We don't know what he plans to do but he is going to use what he has that works. And he isn't going to force his team into a style that it doesn't have the players for. Don't be fooled by last years record. We were the best of the worst. Lots of rebuilding needs to be done yet. Wait another two years and then let the bitching start. Gotta get some players before you can win, aye? And if Haley's play calling sucks then he can fire himself. It would be yet another OC that he couldn't work with....himself.
