Jarvis Jones, a Georgia outside linebacker who is viewed as a potential first overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft, has made his decision: He’s leaving school to go pro.
That decision has been expected all year, as Jones has been discussed as one of the best pro prospects in college football. ESPN’s Mel Kiper ranks Jones as the best player at any position in this year’s draft.
Jones has led the SEC in sacks in each of the last two seasons, and he also led the NCAA in forced fumbles in 2012. There may be questions, however, about whether he’s a consistent every-down player, and there could also be questions about his injury history: He started his college career at USC and transferred after the school’s doctors recommended that he quit football because of spinal stenosis. Georgia’s doctors have cleared him to play and he has had no further neck problems, but he did have ankle, groin and shoulder injuries that hampered him at times in 2012 and caused him to miss two games.
If Jones is healthy, however, scouts may drool over his ability to get to the quarterback. With the Chiefs owning the first overall pick in the draft, Andy Reid could be coaching Jones in Kansas City next year.

Marcus McNeil was a potential top 10 LT with spinal stenosis.

He went to the combine and then got drafted in the 2nd round.

No offense if you're a Mizzou fan, but that's not exactly some legendary feat.

Jones is a good player but he's not the #1 player in this draft, nor is he Von Miller.

And he absolutely got swallowed up by Bama. He wasn't good at all against the run this year. Add to that his medical issue and it's gonna be tough for him.


Something blackboob hasn't talked about when referring him to Von, is that Von had ELITE measurables and talent that showed at the combine.


IIRC, his numbers were Julio Jones type eyepopping.

It was concern enough to drop a perennial top 10 pick, to the second round.

I was told that a first round pick has to have a 12 year HOF potential.

He only played for 5 seasons and was rapidly declining over the last 2.

This absolutely DOES NOT work in Jones' favor.

Nobody wants to spend a 1st-round draft pick on a guy that's ceiling is potentially playing only 3-5 years.

Fair point, keep in mind that it was a neck injury combined with multiple concussions that brought about his early retirement...not spinal stenosis.
