I would have done this: Send Herrera to the plate, tell him not to swing.

Give Dyson a "must steal" sign on the first pitch.

If Dyson is thrown out, then go to the 7th with Herrera. If Dyson does make it, I would pinch-hit for Herrera in the middle of the at-bat. (yes, you are allowed to do that even if its not an injury)

Our wWe was 69% and fell to 67% after Herreras strikeout. Fell again to 59% when he walked Pence to lead off the 7th. So hard to say it worked like Yost expected it. Finnegan's two outs jumped it right back to 77% and saved that decision.

Finnegan was great and Herrera was clearly not at his best...

but I still liked how Ned played it.

It was, at worst, 50/50. There was justification for either choice.

Also, pitching him that second inning likely keeps him on the bench tonight.

Ned played it fabulously if you ask me.
This was straight-up a wrong decision, period. Batting Herrera while we were clinging to a 1-run lead was ridiculous.

If there was 1 out, it might be more defensible. At least if he Ks the inning is still alive. It's also defensible if Herrera looked like he had EVER swung a bat in his life. Seeing him actually go up there proves to me he had almost 0% chance of getting a hit.

Herrera is a good pitcher. But he's not Davis or Holland. Burning him for a PH isn't like you screw the pooch or that you don't have other options.

I don't feel like arguing it. I have no problem calling out Ned when I think he ****s up. This, IMO, was just fine. With H D H and a 3 - 2 lead ... I certainly wanted H #1 to get the 7th inning

Fun fact: if you pinch-hit in the middle of the at-bat while there are 0 or 1 strikes and he strikes out, the K is credited to the pinch hitter. If there were 2 strikes, the strikeout is credited to the guy he pinch-hit for.

I'm not certain why Finnegan couldn't have pitched to Pence. RH hitters are only 3-18 against him so far with no power. Small sample size but still.

I want Herrera/Davis/Holland in the 7th - 9th in games we're leading. Period. I thought Ned should've brought in Davis when he brought in Finnegan.
