Let's talk about the Steelers...

Here we go, one of the games we circled this year.... although I don't think anyone expected us to be headed back home for this one at 5-0, or for Pittsburgh to be 3-2.

We know the story. They had our number in 2016 with two crushing losses. A lot has changed in 9 months, though....

For one, quarterback play. Alex Smith 2.0 is legitimately playing like the best QB in the NFL right now. Ben Roethlisberger, coming off of a 5 interception performance, looks like one of the worst. He also showed his dramatic nature yesterday when he questioned if he had what it takes anymore toward the media.

Pittsburgh currently has the 28th ranked run defense in the NFL, and Kareem Hunt is playing like the NFL's best RB. Seems like a good recipe for us, especially since Mitch Morse and/or LDT should be back for Sunday. I would guess only Morse. Le'Veon Bell is not playing up to his normal standards thus far, as he has only looked dominant in one game. However, this looks like a tough matchup for us there, as we are the 20th ranked run defense and coming off of a bad performance Sunday night in that regard. Both offensive lines are solid groups, although Pittsburgh's has not been as dominant as they were last year.

Pittsburgh has the #1 ranked pass defense right now. Part of that likely stems from their quality of opponents so far. However, we are going to need Kelce Sunday. If the Chiefs have their three-headed monster against Pittsburgh, they are going to be able to put up points. I think they would against about anyone, if Smith is given serviceable pass protection.

Our pass defense is struggling statistically, although anyone who watched last night could tell you that they were almost always in position to make plays on the back end. The Houston receivers always made the play, though, unfortunately. The Chiefs could really use the boost of Dee Ford and Tamba Hali to help bring pressure off of both edges consistently. I think we will probably see Dee this week, but who knows. The great thing about being 5-0 right now is they still have a lot of room to improve. The defense is no where near as good as they can be. Hopefully they hit stride down the stretch in Dec/Jan when the temps drop down.

Predictions are highly dependent on injuries, but because of all of the drama in Pittsburgh right now and KC being at home-- I am taking KC.

Chiefs 30, Steelers 24

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

The steelers just played the 32 run d in the league, with a healthy Bell, and ran it like 13 times.

They're a mess

That Brown vs. Peters matchup could be one for the ages.

You can't fault someone for something that hasn't happened yet.

Even worse, you're already faulting a team for something that CAN'T happen yet.

Leave him be. He's one of those broken down, forever scarred fans. It is no longer in him to feel any sense of confidence or hope. Has nothing left.

IMHO, Todd Haley & the Steelers will try to run the ball between the tackles like they did last year. We're cooked if Bell runs for 170 again. Can't wait to see what Sutton draws up for this week.

Everyone not named 'Justin Houston' needs to focus on run technique first this week. (He's the only one good enough to recover from a pass rush and pick up the run.)

DJ (et al.) needs to wrap up more this week. He'll have a hard time getting Bell to the ground if he doesn't.

Guessing Zombo will win the snap count battle against Ragland this week. Zombo had 7 tackles the last 2 games. Ragland had 0. Ragland's snap count dropped from 21 (42%) vs. WASH to 10 (15.6%) vs. HOU. Would be nice if one of them had a breakout game.

Best case scenario is that the Chiefs offense starts the game with long, sustained drives and touchdowns. Force the Steelers into a one dimensional passing game and let our pass rushers pin their ears back. Knock Roethlisberger around and hope he repeats his performance from this past week against the Jags. Let him think that he "doesn't have it" one more week.

Congrats.

You just predicted exactly how this game will go...

I realize we are hardened chiefs fans. We tend to be skeptical and deserve the right to be so. That being said, I think seeing jax kill Pittsburgh last week is actually good for us. I'm thinking the lowly jags defeat will inspire the chiefs.

"Damn man, the freaking jags beat these dudes. We can't let them look better than us!".
