Overreaction Planet

It took a perfect storm for us to lose by one point to the team with the second best record in the AFC last night. SB teams lose games (almost) every year. We have been hanging around 18% chance to win the SB all year. It will in all likelihood end in disappointment. This was always true.

Bottomline is we weren't as good as some of you thought before this game and we are better than some of you think afterwards. In either case, expect to walk away from this season without a SB victory. Play the long game.

Nope, not at all. It's just more apparent now that the offense has slipped a bit without Hunt & Watkins and the beat up OL. Before, KC may have had enough to counter, last minute losses at NE and LAR aside. But one more 1st down, broken tackle, catch etc. here or there can disguise much, and it arguably would have won the LAC game the other night. .

Keep this in mind also - the Chiefs have a good pass rush and our DB's cant cover shit, that's how BAD they are.

We are >< close .
Understanding probabilities isn't an overreaction. Even if you assume that we're 60% likely to win each game in the playoffs, that means we have an 22% chance of winning the Super Bowl.

We're a good team this year that MIGHT get a little lucky and make a run. But we're not a GREAT team that is a clear favorite to do so.

No AFC team looks great. But KC gets no benefit of doubt with past performances. Natural to assume doom and gloom until proven otherwise.

On 3rd down, dumbass Harris false starts making it 3 and 13... We needed that second. I would have liked to have seen a screen on first down, but the way we gashed them the series before, I understand the run. If the screen would have blown up, or a pass incomplete on first down, you would all be screaming on here that we should have ran it after we did so well on the last series.
It was a conservative pass play no matter which way you slice it. People have no business calling out Alex Smith for being a game manager if anyone defends our 4th quarter playcalling. Mahomes made a fine read on a conservative playcall. This is exactly the type of play you dial up for a game manager.

And mahomes' play throughout the 4th quarter reads like an aggressive qb handcuffed into a game manager role. And he looks "off" in that role. Just as we've done every type we get a lead. Just as Reid has done with a lead in the majority of games he's coached for the Chiefs.

We would have been better committing a turnover on our last drive there, Rivers would have scored and allowed us the final possession. That's just how this team works, it's not going to magically change until the ENTIRE defense is overhauled.

Yep. Offense needs to try and score every possession. Don’t let this D try and protect a lead.

DjsLN had it right yesterday I think. The block in the back in the kick return just swung that whole possession. When you’re backed up there, you’ve gotta play it a little closer to the vest. It is what it is.

But then they had it to 3 and 7 and another penalty.

I would have liked to see them run some kind of qb draw there as the middle opened way up

I'm fairly certain Scandrick nailed one of the refs daughters or something, we can be sure anytime late in the game he will get a crucial penalty to give the game away. It happens pretty much like clockwork.

Bingo. Denver, Arizona, San Fran San diego... Mahomes protecting a lead plays like a guy trying not to make a mistake. That's not mahomes football. It seems clear he's being asked to play that way. We should play most leads as if the score is 0 - 0. At some point Reid has to (and I think he will eventually) realize that.
