Honorable mention for Fleetwood Mac and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers? I love Peter Green and there was even a tribute concert a few days ago! Gilmour, Hammett, and Townshend played.
The stories behind the music has always been an interest of mine, some very interesting stuff there.

Here is the cat who was a HUGE influense on The Stones Brian Jones.

If this is a bar fight...I'm taking Iggy and Cash.

On sheer musical talent...Beatles. They reinvented themselves about 3-4 times...nobody on that list did that other than Bowie.

Pink Floyd laughs at them all though...but they are immovable Gods...fighting is for mortals.

I seriously can't see any group on a par with The Beatles. They have so many iconic tunes that will stand the test of time.

Obviously if talking blues ,jazz, country, bluegrass, soul, funk etc then we are talking something else.

The Beatles something totally different than....

But, the facts are this....

The question....most successful band in history.

Answer....

The Beatles

As of 2019, the Beatles have sold 600 million albums worldwide — with 183 million of those sold in the U.S. alone. The group held the top five spots on the Billboard 100 in April of 1964. That’s an achievement that’s likely to remain unmatched. They made $25 million in earnings that year, which equates to over $197 million today.

I can say that the Beatles started out as a candy-ass pop band...then, thanks to Lennon (and LSD), became artistically valid.

Floyd started out as an experimental art band...and never put out bubble-gum shit like "I want to hold your hand"....far stretch from NIN's "I want to **** you like an animal".

Floyd wins on an integrity scale...it's really a matter of personal preference...they are both transcendent. Not even the same kind of music...Beatles are more traditional/assessable format.

Beatles has the rare combination of McCartney...who was more straight-laced/conventional...and Lennon...who was more anti-establishment. That chemistry produced amazing work.

Floyd was more "**** off...you suck. Take our music or leave it"

Do most people know that the Stones were strictly a cover band for a few years...thats kind of crazy.

I never thought candy ass anything about The Beatles, they had it from the start. What bubble gum shit?

Pink Floyd is good but they have nothing on The Beatles at all. You start listing Beatles hits vs Pink Floyd hits, not even close....The Beatles.

Who sold more albums Pink Floyd or the Beatles?

Among all artists, Pink Floyd ranks #7 in number of albums sold in the U.S. (68.5 million), behind The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Garth Brooks, Elvis Presley, the Eagles and Billy Joel.

If only they could sell as many albums as Garth... and his insanely prophetic, existential takes like.."Friends in Low Places"..deep shit if you dropped out in the 8th grade.

Yes it gets no bigger than Williams, Cash and Willie.

You want a death match....who is more original between Black Sabbath and Led Zepplin.

From an overall "sound"...Sabbath is more unique and had a longer-ranging influence. LZ had better technical musicians...
