I had what I felt was a wrongful ticket

So I've never had a ticket in my entire life. I understand it happens. I drive home somewhat late every Wednesday because the boys and I do a podcast that night every single Wednesday for the past 2 years. Therefore I understand I'm more of a target on the road being that there's less traffic, and that's fine.

I was leaving Quik Trip in Lenexa, and getting onto a highway to head west towards my house. I was shortly afterwards pulled over by Lenexa PD (In training) to cite me for an illegal wide turn. I have driven the same way since I was 16 years old. Never once had an issue with the way I turned. Anyways they pulled me over and accused me of also not using my turn signal which also added to my "illegal lane change". I've been furious and I requested the video evidence which I paid $35 for. Of course the evidence shows nothing of the actual violation that they sent me. Only the actual stop of my vehicle. I also noticed on my police report they wrote down my wrong address and as well as the wrong date of the stop. The said June 7th instead of July. I don't know if those things matter or not.

So anyways my question is, as I believe this is a bogus claim by these officers, what's the best options to win on this ticket? Those of you with experience I'm curious of your thoughts. The video here really makes no difference but I'm posting it here anyways. And it's extremely boring past the stopping point.

I tend to agree with this. Certainly in traffic matters. I would never just write a check without getting my taxes worth in going through the system. Hopefully, unless you (not you specifically) are a career criminal, you get very few opportunities to see your tax dollars work in the court system, up close and personal. You should absolutely take advantage when you can. Plus, you never know....I got one thrown out because the officer did not show up for court. i kinda thought that was urban legend or something but it's true. So like Bwana, I'm batting .500 lifetime.

The ticket is an ALLEGATION by the officer that you did something illegal, he may have seen the whole thing or just part of it. Call the prosecutors office and find out their procedures for contesting this. In our court we require an appearance and state to the judge that you'd like to speak to the prosecutor, then that starts the process. Where you are is totally up to them and KS law.

Date and time of offense MIGHT be significant (but I'm NOT an attorney), they can always amend the ticket and you are right back to square one. Note position of the sun (if any), road conditions etc if you get to talk to the PA. Above all, be respectful, bring up your stellar driving record because a conference with the PA is a NEGOTIATION. If you don't like what he says you can always hire an attorney.

You are not guilty until they prove their case. If you do have to show up to court, dress appropriately, clean up your appearance, do not show up with a t-shirt that has a marijuana leaf or says "Judges Suck", "Defund the Police" etc.

Pretty common, he was with his FTO (field training officer), call it an evaluation period to determine if the officer is cut out for duty.

I think the point Fish was making was there usually isn't anything to signify that an officer is still in training to the general public.

I kinda just picked up on it by the way the officers interacted. Then during the citation you can hear the ticketing officer asking questions and verifying with eachother that they’re filling out everything correctly. My suspicions from the live stop looked to be correct after I heard the way they were talking with eachother in the car.

When I was in the Army I saw video of an interaction with an MP and his trainee that became super obvious the younger guy wasn't going to make it as an MP. They responded to a fight in the barracks that housed our infantry soldiers. The punchline is the trainer was yelling for the trainee to pepper spray two of the other guys in my soldier's barracks as he was fumbling through a radio call for help while the trainer was getting roughed up with no help. There were several article 15s written that weekend.

Did you consider just blowing the guy? Probably would of helped him out.

You have no idea how I handled myself during the stop. My dad was a cop for 14 years. I was extremely polite and cordial with the officer and the things he had to say in the moment.

I let the rest play out in court.

Just cause I wanted to bitch about it to you randoms doesn’t mean I bitched about it during the stop.

I have several cop friends that give me family member pba cards every year for Xmas. Last time I got pulled over for speeding (nothing crazy just like 10mph over on an interstate) was in 2020 by a state trooper and he just gave me a warning and told me to slow down and gave me the pba card back. I responded, “yes officer” “thank you officer”

I did get an automatic ticket on route 80 in girard Ohio one time without ever getting pulled over. They hit me with radar took a picture and sent me a $125.00 speeding ticket in the mail. They said if you just pay it you get no points on your license lol one who sucks the peniss it’s almost 400 miles from where I live and know I won’t fight it.
