Andy likes a vet backup. But too bad about Buechele, I guess they don't have enough faith for him to be the main backup.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Blaine Gabbert signed a 1 year, $2,250,000 contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, including $1,750,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $2,250,000.

I took one look at this post, and without a doubt, I knew that it had to be Billay. Only loser on this board to bring up a play from a Nebraska game that was forever ago. Dies Nebraska even have a football program anymore? It's been so long since they've been relevant, I wouldn't know.

Lets hope we never need him. Was never shown to be smart enough to execute a complex play. Good for practice and carry a chart

In that bowl game versus Iowa and Ricky Stanzi, I could tell that Gabbert was boosting his draft stock with the way he was zipping in some good looking balls most of that bowl game.

But then he made a really bad interception that really helped Iowa to win the game.

Ndamukong Suh made a dirty tackle on Gabbert in his first year as starter and jacked his ankle and Pinkel kept him on the field that season even though he was not the same guy playing injured the rest of that year.

I was impressed that Gabbert and Suh were teammates at Bucs and seemed to have put that play behind them.

Another thing I remember about Gabbert was that he played some QB for 49ers when Next Gens Stats was first used and he actually had the highest mph for a ballcarrier at one point early in the season. I do not remember the number but think it was about 21 mph. I don't know that he showed that speed at Mizzou because of the injury from the Suh play.

I guess Gabbert is an older guy if he played against Nebraska in a Big 12 game.

That depends on the contract that Gabbert was given. If there is a bunch of guaranteed money, thus insuring Blaine is on the team, then Buechele probably is history for the Chiefs.

Currently no one is reporting what Blaine's contract money looks like. It has been reported that it is a 1-year contract. If this was a pretty good contract, Gabbert's agency would want that information out there as soon as possible.

I think this indicates it will be a competition for the backup spot.

I think Shane Buechele could be a decent backup, but good to see that Gabbert was signed so nothing is taken for granted.
