I've been told that Taylor still should make the pro bowl, or even the all pro team this year because he got a big contract from our favorite team.

The real significant issue is that spending so much money on a right tackle probably precluded us from signing Hopkins as a wide receiver. And that has been a disaster.

Haven't you heard? Their only options were Wylie or Taylor. There are evidently no other RTs they could have signed or drafted. McGlinchey or McCgary, or any draft picks, were never a viable option.

McGlinchey has 9 penalties year, 5 sacks given up and is terrible in pass pro.

He's been way worse than Taylor

Also keep in mind that 1/3 of Taylor's penalties came in week 2 directly after Collinsworth made him a target.

but on a serious note, as long as he's keeping Mahomes jersey clean it's not as bad as we probably think. The penalties do suck though but part of it was being unfairly targeted.

Yes, Veach could have sat tight and looked for a better deal and if nothing materialized, gone into the draft with basically nothing at either tackle spot.

He paid a premium to avoid that.

Clark might have been a non-factor but he didn't **** up for a couple of asinine penalties a game.

There weren't loads of options. McGary and Eleumenor at RT. I wouldn't have fancied McGlinchey at that cost for 5 years anymore than I like Taylor at this cost for 4 years. I'd probably take Elemenor at RT cheap for a year, but that's a big risk and only solves things for year. McGary has always been a run first blocker.

Of course nobody was stopping anyone from fixing this problem ahead of time. Obviously they tried that with Niang and he just wasn't reliable, and I guess you can't blame them moving off Wylie.

Veach couldn't/didn't manage to fix it and we were a bit backed into a corner. I didn't like the signing, and as soon as we realised he wouldn't make it at LT I hated it - his run blocking has always been awful and it matters more than some would argue, I think. Plus he was never "elite" as a pass-blocker. But equally...I dunno what the right call this year would've been.

Anyway, he's with us so hopefully he can get back to the level of pass-protection from previous years and cut out the penalties. If he does that I still don't like the contract, but it'll be defensible and we can work with it.

Based off what he was paid and the position he played that is a huge issue. He was paid like an elite DE but would vanish in games. He didn’t commit penalties because he was the non-factor that you identified him as. He had zero impact outside of the playoffs despite being paid at a game changer level.

Valid question.
The 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 Chiefs offenses laugh at the notion that a false start is a drive-killing penalty.

The WRs are the reason a 5 yard penalty can end a drive this season.

OBJ was demanding more than Taylor. When we signed Taylor, he realized his actual market value was less at LT. There is no savings with OBJ over Taylor, in fact the exact opposite.

Taylor gets an offseason. He was allowed to play the way Lane Johnson played for his entire career and continues to play. He's had to completely relearn the position after 4 years of doing it that way, all because Chris Collinsworth murdered him on national TV. This clearly has affected him and hopefully a full offseason will fix him.

Plus, Mahomes has been really holding onto that ball this year with his WR core being shit, which has caused some blocking issues.
