NFL Mock Draft - 1/13/2013
Round 1
1. Kansas City Chiefs

(2-14) Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M: The national perception is that Kansas City fans will be irate if the Chiefs don't draft a quarterback with this pick. That may not be giving an educated and passionate fan base enough credit for recognizing this year's poor crop at the position, especially with no quarterback available with the star power coach Andy Reid demands. Clearly the quickest way to turning around a franchise in today's NFL is with a star quarterback. Just as clearly, however, investing a couple of years into the wrong quarterback can lead to an almost irreversible setback.

Joeckel, NFLDraftScout.com's top-rated prospect, played a significant, if somewhat unrecognized role in the rise of Ryan Tannehill a year ago and the Heisman campaign of Johnny Manziel. The Chiefs already boast a solid left tackle in Branden Albert but the former first round pick is entering free agency and could be looking for a big pay day, that frankly, his inconsistent play and durability doesn't really warrant.

Rang has Smith going #4 to the Eagles

So he Rang absolutely thinks Smith is worth a top pick. He just thinks Joeckel is a better fit for the Chiefs.

You're still not addressing the original issue - whether or not Geno Smith is WORTH the #1 overall pick.

To me, it kinda feels like Tannehill, circa 2011. Some people thought he had it, some people didn't. I thought his closest comp was Flacco, who up until this year, didn't feel like a Franchise QB to me. After what he was able to do in Denver, my opinion has changed.

Anyway, you're right: It would have been nice to see him, outside of the K-State game and Bowl game, so that I could participate.

At this point, I'm on the sidelines waiting for the game (Combines) to begin.
It may feel like Tannehill but the situations aren't even remotely the same.

I was down on Tannehill because of his lack of starting experience. Geno has tons of it.

Scouting NFL left tackles all week. Branden Albert #Chiefs comes in ranked at No. 14. Luke Joeckel is my top LT prospect in 10 years.

If the #Chiefs truly plan to draft the best player available, they can hand in the card today. No one will top Luke Joeckel.

I HAVE addressed it: I have NO ****ING IDEA.

I've seen the guy play TWICE: The K-State game and the recent bowl game. If I were to use those as my reasons, there's no ****ing way I'd take him #1 overall.

That said, I HAVE NO ****ING IDEA. Two games is not the sample size I'd use to select a QB in any round, let alone #1 overall.

I've seen him play a couple dozen times the past 2 years. He's a better prospect than Sanches, Ryan, Tannehill, Newton, and Locker.

Based on that, would you say he's worth the #1 overall pick?

We can argue about the first two. That would be a debate.

If you truly believe Tannehill is a better prospect, you're an idiot. Plain and simple.
