Shooting at Arrowhead- Chiefs player commits suicide
No details yet. Just came across on the news.
edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm. An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning. Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25. "We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation." There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said. The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/86...-team-facility Last edited by MoreLemonPledge; 12-01-2012 at 10:32 AM.. |

This is so sad. Not a huge fan of Belcher, but he was a member of the family I love, that being the Chiefs.
When ESPN finally released his name, I literally started crying. I feel horrible for the families of the victims, especially the child left behind. Not sure how I feel about Belcher. I feel sorry for the man and what was going on in his life to lead to this, yet I am outraged by his actions What a horrible day.

ESPN ticker says that Pioli and Crennel talked him out of more acts of violence before he thanked them and shot himself.

These teams have a combined record of 4-18. I can't imagine postponing or even canceling the game would mean much to anybody in the grand scheme of things.

If Goodell doesn't reschedule the game, fans should not enter the facility until the end of the first quarter to send the message that some things in life are more important than a game.

There are thousands of people making hourly wages tomorrow that would not be able to do so later in the week due to scheduling commitments. The Chiefs and the NFL make money whether the game is played on Sunday, Monday, or at 3 in the morning on Wednesday. The vendors shuffling up and down the stairs, the bellhops working their asses off in the nearby hotels, the servers at many local restaurants, etc will not make money just before Christmas if the date is changed. If I am hawking Miller Lite at the stadium for an hourly wage, not getting any tips because the price is already ridiculous, and straining up and down those stairs to make a few extra pennies for Christmas for my kids, I would be upset if I couldn't do it on Monday night because I am back at my full time job then. Why is it that businesses are painted as evil entities regardless of their decisions?

Honestly the more I think about it maybe they should postpone the game anyway. The players might not even be in a mental state to make an appropriate decision. Asking someone to make a decision a few hours after one of their teammates shot himself is brutal.

Leave BRC alone. I had to face this with my wife with all the meds she was on at one point had her going down this same street. She better now and off almost of those meds and doing a lot better now. Not everyone is wired the same way to cope with what life gives them and some do not have the support of family and friends to get them thru those times that when they need support. This is a time to support the remaining family and friends to help them out thru this so this does not happen again anytime soon.
