Great Snow Dump 2011

Calling for anywhere from 5-10 inches of the crap in NE Kansas starting today at noon.

Good luck to all your backs after shoveling it.

Question for knowledgable homeowners:

I've got a few water pipes that run along the north-facing wall in my garage. One of which leads to a water spigot outside my garage. I'm a little worried about if freezing. I have opened the air vent in my garage, but I wonder if that is enough. Are the any other precautionary things I should be doing?

Not sure that it matters, but I live in a ranch style home with a basement. The garage where the pipes are located is one-half of the basement. The rest of my pipes are located in the center of my house. I'm not really concerned about those.

I used to suck at driving in snow. Oddly enough, after spending 6 years in Iowa, I learned how to do it. Driving in snow isn't that bad, as long as there isn't a steep 20+ degree incline, all you have to do is drive slow. I dont care if its downtown or the interstate highway, if the road is white, you take every turn very slowly and do not go faster than about 35 mph under any circumstances and you'll be fine. Or if your not fine you'll at least survive the impact.

Dude, that rules out like 80% of adults.

Even if my work did call me tomorrow and say I don't have to come in and I could do whatever I wanted; I sure as hell wouldn't go sledding or snowball fights or any of that shit. I'd probably just sit at my desk on CP all day bitching about how ghey snow is. If I wanted to do something fun in the snow it would require some serious effort on my part. That means I'd have to gather up my other adult friends and drive to a specific locale; in which case we'd probably all decide we'd rather go to a bar than get in a snowball fight. So **** snow.

Sorry to be such a hater; but fo rlz. If I lived in Colorado or something where I could make a hobby out of skiing or snowboarding I might really, really like the stuff. Here I can go sledding or wreck my car into a ditch.

Yeah, the hills is what makes it hard. Or just getting stuck at a red light and then not being able to move, shit like that.

Or the obvious none of the above, because you can't get your car out of the driveway.

I usually turn on a faucet that's in the highest part of the house and let it trickle. Keeps the water moving and helps prevent freezing, in theory.

today was really bad. I had a mitz lancer that is good for the snow for some reason. I just ran every red light (no cars out anyway) and just plowed through 3 or four foot snow at lackmen and college. There was a nissan full of eskamo's although I think they were mexican because they were stuck. Nissan Xtera stuck in a easy part of of a hill and I get out and push. I swear I got in my car after pushing hard for 10 minutes and I thought I was having a heart attack. luckily I made it home after shear luck, and I finally caught my breath. I had shortness of breath for awhile with vomiting and chest pains

It depends on what you have for insulation, temp and wind speed.

Snow looks pretty, snow lets you sled/tube, snow lets you ski/snowboard and snow lets you play snowball fights.
I grew up in Toronto and I'd rather live in a warm place. Nothing against snow, but c'mon.

Warm place or San Diego? I would not want to live in Florida or Arizona year round, but San Diego? No doubt. Too bad it's so expensive.
