We're mostly some version of center right
But it’s not right leaning. It’s right dominant and the only left presence are leftists people don’t take seriously because they never post outside of DC. So even the tiny bit of opposition isn’t actually dialogue. Several lefties in this thread have said they used to post on DC and just don’t anymore. That’s a problem. DC went from left vs right to treating Donger like he’s an extreme leftist. It’s now the right wing vs the “RINO”.

It’d be fine if people bickered there. But its hard to bicker when the whole forum is self validating. Talking to a bunch of people who already agree with you. different when posters outside an echo chamber feel totally out of place here. I know you are one of those people that actually appreciate opposing viewpoints. Many in DC do too. But you’re not getting it there.

Agreed. And that’s the heart of the issue. If you move Covid or gas prices out of DC you’re basically censoring the left. There are posters on this thread who obviously have something to say but don’t feel comfortable posting in DC. Ideally Dc can accommodate both sides. Shouldn’t be that dc is right dominant while threads allowed to remain in main forum are left dominant. Ideally DC could be way more accommodating for both so all these discussions can get put in a separate place and no reasonable person feels censored.

I am left leaning and I have posted in DC from the beginning. It has never been "accommodating" to left leaning people and we have always been out numbered. Go back and read the threads on the Iraq War and see how that went, massive pile ons on Jaz and mymyselfI (Denise) and others.

Just speaking for myself I used to be big into politics and followed it 24/7 but I lost interest in it several years ago and hardly ever pay attention to it anymore. I have other interests and would rather talk Chiefs, NFL, NBA, food than anything else.

Seeing complaints about DC being right-dominant is funny.

Hmmm....I wonder what's going to happen when leftist mods ban all the righties from the Lounge Covid thread (and others). The leftists still have their little echo chamber, while the right has only one place to go.

So tired of every issue being shoved into the "right" or "left" category anyway. It's pathetic that people are so easily suckered into the left-right paradigm. Take the vaccines for example. A personal health decision should never be turned into a political issue, but here we are. If you're in any way skeptical of the vaccine, you're branded a righty extremist. Unless, of course, you were skeptical of it while Trump was in office. Then you were a rational leftist.

****ing clown world.

Can you believe it?

A team based in flyover country (which is a cutdown) has posters who are mostly conservative?

It would be like being on a Seahawks political forum and complaining that it's a liberal echo chamber.

The slant to DC doesn't really bother me. As others have mentioned it, this is a board full of older, midwest, White dudes. That's to be expected.

I do agree that there's not much value for anyone who is more "left of center" rather than "TEH LIBBS!!!" to be in there. There's not a lot of room for nuanced discussion. But then again, I'm not here for political discussion, so whatever.

I do find the blatant conspiracy theories and misinformation to be a bit frustrating, which is why I kind of wish there was a way to just get rid of the "crazies" rather than shutting the whole thing down. But to be clear, I voted "no opinion" in the poll. In general, it is what it is.

I wouldn't even care if it was forever right-dominated if a good portion of the bullshit went away. There could be 5 intelligent people who leaned to the left in whatever extreme and 50 intelligent people who leaned to the right... and IMO that would still work if the entire point was something more than trying to "win" or just be shitty to each other.

There's so much blame to go around these days when it comes to politics, but the vast majority of people in that forum completely ignore their side's part of the blame (and let's not kid ourselves, if it's not 50/50 it's probably pretty damn close).

And beyond all of the personal attacks and petty bullshit, that's really what makes so many of those discussions look so reeruned to an outsider.

It would be like if you lived on the north side of Chicago and as an outsider went south a ways to where it's basically Fallujah, and you encountered two of the worst gangs in Chicago that combined accounted for a huge portion of murders and violence and so forth.... and you found they were bickering at each other like one side was vastly superior and the other was a complete dumpster fire causing all the problems. Stones in glass houses and so forth.

That's DC in a nutshell.
