If they offered that much the media wouldn't be getting quotes from people inside the Marlins saying "it probably isn't close to being enough to get him away from St Louis" about their "substantial" offer.

I'm not a huge baseball fan, but I know 2 things: 1. Albert is good, and having him back is good. 2. I'm a little bummed they didn't goof and use "resigning" instead. That's one less thing to make fun of. |

Confirmed: #Marlins' offer to Pujols is indeed 9 years, as @TBrownYahoo suggested. As I reported initially, offer "substantial." #STLCards |

I read today that the $210 million contract the Cardinals supposedly offered Pujols didn't even top $200 million.
I find it hard to believe Pujols would settle for $23mil a year after only hearing 1 other offer this early in the offseason. That would not be smart business. |

"SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that that Marlins' offer to Albert Pujols was "well, well below" $200 million.
It was a nine-year proposal, but the average annual salary was not substantial enough for Pujols and his representatives to take it seriously. The Cardinals still look to be the front-runner for the 31-year-old slugger and will remain on top until another team steps forward. Miami's interest was never for real. " |

Pujols coming back with Wainright coming back into form IMO makes this team the top contender in the league. They do have some other parts that need to be taken care of such as settling down the SS and 2B positions. I like what Furcal brought in late, but his bat needs to be more evident.

I was listening to Kevin Slayton on my Iphone today (BTW, what a dick/asshole) and he was saying he has a source that is imppecable that says the spring offer from the Cardinals was 9 years at $23 million per year.

Give Descalso the everyday job at 2nd, and let Furcal walk if he wants a multi year deal at 6 MM as reported. Greene can be your super sub across the MIF, perhaps holding down the SS spot if Furcal does walk, and re-sign Punto.
We got less than 1 WAR from our MIF last year, so I'm not worried about turning it over to the young guys.
