The "I just got back from the gym" and this is what I have eaten thread.

Okay, so there are a ton of guys in here that are working out, trying to work out, or 'thinking' about working out.

So, I figured I would start a thread. I am all about making myself accountable. The more people that I tell about working out, the more people I would let down by not going.

If you go to the gym.... then post here when you get back. If you do P90X, post here when you get done. If you ride the excercise bike.... post it here.

Anything you do to get in shape.... share with the board. I know I have gotten some great advice and feedback.

Also, post what you eat. If you post everything you eat, and you know others will be critical, you may think twice before you grab a Twinkie.

Okay, so, I went to the gym. I did five minutes on the cross climber to warm up. I stretched for about three minutes.

Then, I did three sets of squats with just 135. I did back extensions and hanging leg lifts. Three sets each. I did leg curls, calf extensions, abductor and adductor excercises as well.

On my leg day, I do very light chest exercises to work on my explosive power. I do three sets of six pushups as explosively as I can. I throw the excercise ball up like a chest pass while laying on the bench.

Then, I finished off my workout with 30 minutes on the eliptical.

As far as my diet.

Breakfast two pieces of peanut butter whole wheat toast, protein shake, and banana.

I have had another banana, two yogurts, and a handful of cashews as snacks.

I didn't have a 'lunch' per se.

Kids had sloppy joes with lean beef (as if that makes it great).... I took a baked potato, and put a serving of sloppy joe over it, with jalapenos and 2 oz's of lowfat cheddar cheese.

I have also had shotgun with water, and synthesize with water.

I won't eat again before bed.

Okay, I know putting everything down here will open me up to criticism. I know some will think that I am doing things all wrong. I appreciate any advice, but I have done a lot of reading and talking to trainers.... so, I have an idea of what I am doing.... or at least what I think I am doing.

The point of this thread, isn't to get into pissing matches about how to do things.... but rather to give ourselves a gold star for making an effort.

Try not to beat anyone down on this thread, because this is about encouragement.

My goal weight was 185, but I'm only 5'9. Heh.

I've got roughly 8-10 pounds to shed. Once I'm there, I'll probably drop it down to 175.

Thanks, man! Yeah, been busy lately. Literally check in for minutes at a time, just to read the headlines. And to check the latest neg rep googlegoogle leaves me, heh.

I'm down 60+ from Tiny E's original thread. My goal thus far this year has been to stay under 200, which I have. Been tough at times - I'm a comfort eater, and the shit weather along with life in general has made it difficult at times, but I've hung in. I'm getting my mind right again, and starting back at it like I mean it. Hopefully I'm at 175 by the time football is being played again.

How have you been doing, since I'm too lazy to read the thread?

I made no progress last year, but I was able to maintain my weight until we got back from Reno at the end of August. Then I went into a state of gluttony and put on 25-30lbs. I've lost all of that this year and am really hitting my stride.

I started the couch to 5k program and yesterday ran 2.5 miles in about 31 minutes. I'd never run a mile before in my life before last Wednesday so I'm a big fan of the program.

I started lifting weights a couple of weeks ago and I'm starting to see some results from that already. I weigh about 320 right now and I'm confident that I'll be down to my goal weight of 210-220 in the next few months.

My mind is stronger than it was in 08 when I dropped 130 in six months, and my body is definitely stronger. Physically, I'm in a good way right now and it's only going to get better.

Thanks for asking, and congratulations on your success! You've earned it.

Kick ass, dude. That's the trick for making lifestyle changes - your mind HAS to be right to be in it for the long haul. That was my problem before - I'd set a goal, reach it, and be happy that I reached it, but would just revert back to the old ways. Staying strong in that aspect is just as important as being dedicated with your workouts. Took me awhile to get that through my thick skull. Sounds like you've got that part figured out for yourself. Feels good, doesn't it?

Good luck with the running. I LOATHE running, which is why I force myself to do it (weather permitting, which means I haven't ran in awhile). I do sprints up a hill, along with some other types of balance workouts. Sucks, but I feel good after it's all said and done.

Stay strong, bro. You will get there, no doubt.

Totally. Weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise as it's always been told to me. I'm becoming a pretty firm believer though that it comes down to nothing more than calories in vs. calories out. I workout, I eat more.

Tomorrow I'm taking a day off for the first time in 10 days and I've stockpiled some calories up this week to account for those 1000 I won't be burning up at the gym.

Really, the reason I've failed is that I like to eat. It's just a matter of balancing everything out to have what I want, while still maintaining my caloric deficit goals.

It's a little anal, but I actually keep a log on everything and have even started weighing all of my food out to make sure that it's correct. While not necessary, I'm doing it to help me achieve some of the lofty goals I've set for myself.

I'm hoping that at this point I can maintain the mind set that I'm changing the way that I live my life, and not just trying to shed a few pounds that I will undoubtedly put back on should I not continue on this course. Mindset is everything in this game AFAIC.

I'd love it if you'd at least shoot me a PM every once in a while to let me know how things are going if you can't post in this thread. This little online support group keeps me going more than anything else.

It is calories in/calories out. But, I find that working out keeps me from binging. I feel better, and my body craves sweets a little less. I don't have all the answers, but I think that exercise is a HUGE part of weight loss.

The other thing is that we have 24 hours a day. We are going to spend at least some of that time on recreation. If we spend an hour a day watching TV, we usually grab (well at least I used to), grab a 'snack'. If, instead, I am spending my hour at the gym.... I am not grabbing a snack... and if I am, it is specifically aimed at trying to help me build muscle.

The key to any big change is mentality. And, working out definitely helps my state of mind when it comes to eating right, etc.

Heh, I should, and indeed I was. I need to see if Tiny Evel can take a still off of that video I sent him (if he even has it anymore), then post a recent one. I'll need to photoshop Fat Bastard's face over fat me, and Val Kilmer's Iceman face over the new me......

Today's gym time was great. I totally killed it. 10 neutral grip pull ups first set, 5 wide grip overhand pull ups second set. Today felt great. I also tried a new biceps exercise. I slid my grip to where my thumbs were touching the very edge of the dumbells. Then, I sat on an incline bench. I got the tip from Men's Health, and it was awesome. I could tell how much harder my biceps were working.

So far, I have had a protein shake and Panda Express. I am loving the wok smart dishes and steam fried veggies. It is a little more than I like to spend on lunch... ($8.00), but I can't beat the amount of protein for the amount of calories... oh, and it is delicious.

Still down 20lbs even after my cheat day at Golden Corral. So, that's good. Though, I'd probably be down 21 without it.
