****Seahawks @ Chiefs Preseason GDT****

So many players to finally see in action.

No injuries and a Chiefs victory would be swell.

Nicolas has a great step off the snap...a lot like Ford.

If he can get some technique down and put on like 15-20 lbs he's going to be a ****ing stud someday. May be steal of the draft if that happens.

Absolutely.
He needed to wrap up and pull.
If he does that, the Chiefs get the ball on downs.
Instead, he stupidly tries to pull the ball out.

I've never seen JC run behind a good O-line...so kinda excited about it.
None of us have ever seen Charles run behind a good O-Line, which is why he has been so amazing, and highly underrated.

That's all well and good, but if Ford wasn't a first round pick, he'd be third on the depth chart.

Hope Moses and Dadi keep this up. Would be great depth and insurance in case Ford does bust.

I'm excited to see the OL vs another elite DL next week in LA.

Ford can continue to "develop" on the bench if he still isn't getting it. We need results now and Ford knows that more than anyone.

Moses and Nicolas are on his tail and if this continues, you bench bench Ford and send a message.

Jerry Hughes looked like a bust because he clearly needed the right scheme fit. Indy didn't know what do with him or how to use him.

Whitney Mercilus has never had less than 5 sacks in his first 3 seasons. He had 13 sacks in his first two years. Ford has like 5.5 sacks in his first two years. Mercilus is what we wish Ford WAS in his career so far.

Melvin Ingram is the closest comp to Ford. Both kind of shitty and both fanbases hoping the guys break out. Ingram broke out last season and I'm literally hoping Ford can break out like Ingram in year 3 or year 4 or it's probably a lost cause.

Ford had 4 sacks in 6 starts last year. He could've easily matched Mercilus's first two years if he wasn't sitting behind Houston and Hali. He STILL put up twice as many sacks as Hughes and Ingram did their first two years.

His run defense has not been good at all, but like I said he shouldn't even be playing SOLB. He's just not a good fit there. He's a WOLB in this defense. Having said that, he's still been a decent pass rusher, and anybody pretending he hasn't is full of shit.

3 of them came in one game against the worst offensive line in football. He was basically a non factor in the other 5 starts in terms of finishing sacks.

Yea yea I know led December in pressure blah blah that stat is almost as bad as Alex Smith's invisible touchdowns stat.

I see you quoted my post before my edit, so I'll just say it again. He STILL had twice as many sacks as Hughes and Ingram did in their first two seasons, on much less snaps.

And don't give me that shit about how bad that OT is. If Ford's as bad as people make it sound it should've been a stalemate. Nobody gives a **** when Miller or Mack are abusing a shit OT, but when a guy like Ford does we're going to hold it against him? That's just ridiculous. That OT earned an extension this offseason, so I highly doubt he was getting abused like that every single game.

Really? How do you get to the NFL and not cover job #1 at D-end?

My dumbass learned that the hard way when I was a kid. Right before our first game during warmups, the coaches suddenly announce they're moving me to starting right DE. A position I'd never once taken a single snap at. 5 plays in it became pretty obvious.

Listen, nobody is doubting his ability to rush the passer. Your comps to him were three OLBers, that figured it out in their 4th or 5th seasons in the league. That's fine. And your argument clearly is that A) Dee Ford could be a better pass rusher than all of them now with opportunity and B) He can still breakout.

It's great that, he can rush the passer, I think we all know that he can rush the passer. The problem is THATS ALL HE CAN DO. He can't seal, he can't stop the run, he can't drop in coverage. He is a one trick pony of all one trick ponies. The thing about some of the guys you compared him too, is they can rush the passer as well as stop the run and drop into coverage. Like Clowney is the rush backer on the Texans, so Mercilus has to drop into coverage, stop the run, seal the edge on top of pass rushing. Same with Jerry Hughes, he plays the utility role for Buffalo (hence them drafting Shaq Lawson). FORD CANT DO ANY OF THAT and clearly shows no signs of improving in any facets other than rushing up field on a tackle when a QB is passing.

If a QB runs the spread or sits in shotgun all day then Ford can have a field day and do what he's good at. If the team incorporates any sort of run game with pulling guards, fullbacks, blocking TEs, Ford looks like he wants no part of it.

And 2 of 3 three guys you comped him too literally play the position that need to do ALL of those things, the same position people are critiquing Ford looking lost at. It's not just about pass rushing or pressures or sacks. It's about consistent play and not looking completely lost or inept in a certain part of a football game. He's got to get better at it.

Neither of those guys were particularly good at those things either their first few seasons, so I think you're just further proving my point that it can be fixed and developed.

If Ford were at ROLB where he belongs, we could hide those issues until he further develops as a complete OLB.

Do you remember how long it took Hali to become a solid run defender?

I hated the Bob Sutton hire at the time, and nothing from the past 3 seasons has changed my opinion.

I feel like the guy is the weak link of the coaching staff and is in completely over his head.

The only hope is that we have enough talent to overcome his coaching.
