They may very well already have the trade in place for his replacement. The combine is typically where these early offseason deals get completed.

If he doesn't sign the franchise tag, that kind of holds KC hostage when they need to make other moves. That ties up $18 million guaranteed. If he's not going to budge, KC needs to make the call and move on.

And yeah, really not all that hard to see Veach and OBJs representation getting testy. Negotiations last season didn't end well at all judging from the public swipes each side took at each other.

Not at first. I think this gives Veach time/opportunity to redo CJ's deal to make it more cap-friendly, maybe more time to try and get Frank/Gay figured out(?), redo MVS' deal maybe, get a more solid idea of what kind of space is left to sign a LT if we don't draft one. Basically, Veach will do as much of his spring-cleaning as he can before thinking about signing a skill position FA.

Extremely risky but it has to be done. Reading that first tweet makes it pretty clear that using the franchise tag on OBJ again, only gives him more leverage. Veach isnt willing to pay him his demands this year and it gets even uglier next year.
