****Official Houston Astros @ Kansas City Royals ALDS Game 1 Thread****

Game 1 SP: Collin McHugh vs Yordano Ventura

6:37pm cst @ Kauffman Stadium

TV: FSN1

It's finally game day, man what a long week. Time for the good guys in blue to put up or shut up. Put the Sept month behind them, eveything's led up to this point and anything less than a WS will be considered a disappointment. Personally I hope to eventually see a I-70 WS. GO ROYALS!!!

I don't think you understand how small of a sample size 27 baseball games is.

Here are two batters' splits in April 2006. Both were 26 years old:

Player A: 10 Homers, .326/.404/.783
Player B: 5 homers, .306/.388/.494

Player A hit 8 more homers, for the rest of his career.
Player B hit 53 more homers...that season.

A is Chris Shelton
B is Ryan Howard in his MVP year

I get it.

But I also realize that what happens in a month to my children is astronomical when compared to a dopey baseball team.

The bottom line is that I'm tired of sports and tired of wasting time on things that are no longer relevant to my life.

The Chiefs have been shit for the past 44 years of my life. The Royals were shit for 29 of the past 30 years of my life.

It's time to refocus and put that energy elsewhere.

I don't think most of you are old enough to remember. The only time the Royals won a World Series they were down 3-1 twice. They weren't exactly successful against Dave Steib or John Tudor either and the offense looked like dogshit. I know this was mentioned the other night as well. Its sports folks. That's why we watch it. I don't think I need a break from sports as much as a break from sports talk and message boards

You're right, and it's probably good advice. Not always easy to follow, though.

Plus, the Astros were 11-16 in September. They are 40-42 since July 1st.

I totally agree we may not win, that's baseball. But I really don't understand how everyone, not just here but on other boards and Twitter... are sitting here arguing that the Royals are losing because they let up in September and the Astros didn't. That's not true at all. There's just no basis in reality for that. They just beat us tonight. It has nothing to do with September or previous years' playoff series or any of that voodoo. You can even argue they came into the playoffs colder than almost anyone.

Many Jays fans are complaining right now that the Jays lost today because the team let up in the last 5 games of the season after clinching. Such bitching after postseason losses is rarely rational.

It's not something they chose to do it just happens when you stop playing with a sense of urgency. You see it happen in every sport almost every year. It's not an easy thing to manage. There is a huge trend of wild card teams scraping to the end and riding that wave into the playoffs. The Astros didn't play well the last month, but they have had to continue to play with a sense of urgency. It's also not a great matchup for the Royals, and most of us knew that. We can still get hot starting tomorrow and win the series. The sky isn't falling yet.

Your graph probably still has them winning in spite of that tomorrow because that's your gimmick.

Besides the last month we have one of the best pitchers in baseball leading us tomorrow, an offense that went to game 7 of the World Series and the best bullpen in MLB. Jesus Christ this board is full of whining bitches. Did you all expect a sweep to the end? Lmfao

We seemed to have strayed away from our identity that had us crushing souls in last year's postseason and the beginning of this regular season. We're not a small ball team anymore. I haven't seen us try to play that way in a long time.

It seems to be an identity thing that propelled us forward, and somewhere along the way we lost it. That's way more worrying than the Royals not finishing the month of September (which is debatable)
