Alex Smith is a solid QB, sorry haters. Bucs win 5th game in a row.
Despite the common thought here that Alex Smith held down the team Sunday, Smith's overall production to the team yesterday graded out very positive in 3 rankings:
Smith: QBR 94.1, QB rating 99, PFF 71.9 Winston: QBR 83.6, QB rating 97, PFF 50.7 ![]() https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro...-for-bucs-win/ "Smith gained positive expected points (EPA) on 77 percent of his plays on Sunday, the second-highest rate for a QB in a game this season (Dak Prescott, 83 percent versus Chicago in Week 3). Put simply, more than three-fourths of his plays contributed to the team’s scoring margin, given the context and situation." - http://www.espn.com/blog/statsinfo/p...s-excels-again This is why we should use our brains instead of repeating the garbage fed to us by Mellinger and Teicher. If Smith only had 34 plays yesterday to do something with the ball and earns both a rushing and passing TD, a FG, to 1 INT (first red zone interception since 2013) and completes an outstanding 77% of passes ... we should probably focus on the real problem yesterday: The Defense. Who didn't show up and allowed Winston/Martin to hold the ball for 35 minutes, earn 24 first downs, and convert 68% of 3rd downs (league average is 40%). Against the Bucs... Alex Smith: 1 INT, 99 QB rating Philip Rivers: 2 INTs, 80 QB rating Russell Wilson: 2 INTs, 39 QB rating Drew Brees: 3 INTs, 49 QB rating Last edited by TigeRRUppeRRcut; 12-11-2016 at 09:10 PM.. |

“I would say sometimes there are things that don’t show up on the stat sheet and you have to find it to say – man this guy is playing at a high level,” Quinn explained of scouting Smith. “It’s the decision-making, it’s creating a scramble to go for a first down and it’s putting the ball in the correct spot. When I watch him play we are all so impressed by his ability to make the right decision, against the right coverage.
“That’s a real thing and not everybody has that awareness and you have to have experience to do that and he does. I recognize that some people measure everything only on stats, but that eight-win stat is pretty strong too. We’re a believer in him and what he’s capable of doing and how he is a big part of their offense -- Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn |

I agree with Quinn as far as Alex being able to dictate what the opposin defense is trying to do on the fly.. but what keeps Alex from being a rodgers or brady is not capitalizing on it during the course of a game.

every opponent coach's evaluation of him is this "invisible stats" excuse. It's really a passive aggressive compliment. It's a nice way of saying "He doesn't really do anything, and because of that, he can beat teams that screw up, but he can't beat teams that don't."

For once, I want there to be an era of Chiefs football where there are no "questions" and no need for debates about the QB...everyone just knows he is not the problem.
Maybe someday... |

Last time was Green. It was pretty much accepted he was a top 5 to 10 QB that lead one of the top offenses in football.

Well, there are only 4 or 5 QBs in the league that are good enough now. The NFL has engineered the entire sport to be a measure of how good a starting QB you have

Those teams less a few have bitches complaining also. Just like here its not the fan base. It's the fair weather fan crying, which is worse than a bandwagon fan IMO

CP is unbelievably fair weather. You look at last year and this year, any lookers from the outside would think it's pathetic

Stop it with this QB is all that matters crap. Football is a team game. Always has been and always will be. No one player wins by himself, ask any QB, GM, coach in the league and they'll say the same thing. How many SBs did Dan Marino win? |

Alex has his moments. He has been nails in some games in particular certain moments but far to many the film break down show he's very conservative and inconsistent with scoring TD's and misses wide open receiver's too much.
His best asset is leadership and he doesn't throw int's much. In today's NFL those are still good traits to have but scoring is more important in my book the way games are played. His scoring issue has really came to light this season because our running game has gone down hill. We don't run the ball like we should and that puts more on him to throw td's, of which he doesn't do much of.
