Wait, I'm confused, are you saying Crennel senses people don't want someone else from the NE tree and that's why he said that, because I'm saying the same thing.

Mallet set records during his college career; Cassel didn't even start.
Who would you prefer on the roster right now? |

I wanted Mallet in the draft too. But if we passed on him multiple times in the draft, what makes you think Pioli would give up multiple picks (likely) to get him from the Pats?

Again, I was for drafting Mallett in the 1st last year. I like/liked him too. But the jury is still out... just like on Stanzi. Stanzi looked like our best QB in the preseason too, but the jury is still out on him as well. |

I don't think Pioli would make a trade for Mallet. He should, but probably won't. I'm simply responding to the question of "who is potentially available?"

In my opinion, retaining Matt Cassel provides no real benefit and only delays the arrival of a legit QB. If I were GM, I would drop Cassel immediately and start trying to identify a legit prospect. And if I were unable to find one this year, I would go with Stanzi and try again next year. If Stanzi tears it up- great! Problem solved. If Stanzi stinks it up- great! We know he's not the answer and our crappy record will likely have us in position to draft the next Andrew Luck. Either way, we would be farther along than we are with Cassel. |

The front office sees Matt Cassel as a hard working, smart guy that happens to play quarterback.
That's basically got to be your reasoning for keeping the guy. If it's on a talent level, he is lacking there. Hell lets just take Vince YOung and turn the offense wild. We sure can attack. |
