If you are over weight and your physician does not stress the importance of losing weight. Find another doctor. Losing weight may not let the symptoms of sleep apnea go away for everyone, but it will more than likely lessen the symptoms of sleep apnea. What is the worst that could come out of it any way. A person could lose some weight. |

I got diagnosed in 2015, after six months before we had the twins. Probably saved my life. Don’t know how I would have survived otherwise.
I was also/always a stomach sleeper before the diagnosis. Sleep specialist doc told me it was likely due to the apnea and my body finding a position that minimized it. Side sleeper now. I do the nasal pillow. Only thing I’ve ever done. I recently purchased the lumin cleaning system, which uses UV light to sanitize. It came with an add-on called “the bullet” that makes cleaning the hose a 2-minute process done 3x a week. I’ve noticed a big difference in quality. Best thing is the sanitizing tray can be used for other things - like toothbrushes, etc. Handy to have. I lost about five pounds in the first two months I had the CPAP. Also noticed an enormous and immediate change in my sharpness and rest when I woke up. I had gotten to the point where I would doze off after dinner everyday before I started therapy. Can’t sleep without it now. I am about to order a new device and will be getting one that includes a battery pack, so I’m not screwed if the power goes out (like it did the night before last).

Been on my ResMed now since 2017, and I can't imagine sleeping without it. As others have said, it takes a little getting used to, but I was good to go after 2 or 3 nights. I still to this day have odd evenings where I will take the mask off for some reason, and not really know why. But generally, I'll get 6.5 to 8 hours (depending on when I go to bed) of solid healthy sleep.
I have not bought the ozone cleaner yet, I'm still washing it in hot soapy once a week. I've not had any problems with infections or anything, but washing it by hand is a pain in the ass. I just don't want to drop 300.00 on a SoClean, though I hear it works like a dream. I'm interested in the one posted earlier from Amazon though. That's a nice price point and looks like it would work well. Anybody else use that device for cleaning CPAP?

Diagnosed 11 years ago. I had real issues with the cpap mask in the beginning. I tried 4 different masks before I found one I could tolerate. Now my blood pressure is down. Headaches gone and I feel so much better.

So EVERYONE has sleep apnea? Sounds like it. Do these sleep study people have an incentive to overexagerrate and say you need one because they can sell you one or profit off of it? How does that work? Seems awful convenient.

People who go to a pulmonologist have already had years of bad sleep. Nobody goes to a sleep doctor if they casually want to see if they have a problem. I would expect the percentage of people who have a sleep study to be close to 100%.

There is no program where you can make money, get disability etc for sleep apnea. Get a free machine maybe. When I was working, Hospitals and Doctors are not allowed to have ownership in equipment sales.

And if you’re willing to spend a bit more, the UV cleaners are amazing, too (and safer if you have small children around you)

My wife has it and she would be the first to tell you that it is likely attributed to weight and bad sleep habits. One thing I will say though, if she's sleeping on her sides, it's much better. If she's sleeping on her back, that's when the wind tunnel opens up.

Heh. I ordered the one in the link you posted 5 minutes ago. Thanks by the way, it's a lot more affordable that the SoClean.

...I don't think the CPAP thing is a scam though. I took the Sleep Study, and after 3 nights I could see on paper what the problem was, snoring, stopping breathing, shitty nights sleep and constantly tired.
