I don't get why they're trying to make him a tackle. He's not a good starting guard but he's a very good backup imo. He doesn't have the feet or athleticism for OT.
And I loved how nasty he was on pushing piles, backing up players in scuffles, and trying to get upfield to lay an extra block. I think some of that would get lost trying to play a finesse (for a lineman) position like tackle. |

I do like that he could theoretically play C in a pinch too. He's not likely to ever be a great player, but he's versatile and atleast can be good in multiple spots or atleast good enough. He's also cheap. |

We still have no depth at OT.
I guess signing Allen means that Erving in OT full time. He sucks. |

I guess Kemp has ACL and MCL injuries. If true, he's done for the year and maybe part of next year. Too bad.

Lol. You choads are gonna blow your brains out when Reid keeps Hyde.
And I’ll be there to say “I told you so...” Seriously. People irrationally hate Hyde. It’s stupid. |

Nah. Different type of hatred with Alex.
I said it before, but this happens every year. Some veteran is ranked higher on the depth chart than Johnny McUndrafted. The skills are about comparable, but the veteran is just simply the better player. Guess who the coaches are going to pick? It's why I became a Terrance Copper fanboy years ago. Every year during the preseason was the same song: "WAAAAAHHH... ASHLIE LELIE IS BETTER! CHAD HALL IS BETTER! WHY ARE WE KEEPING COPPER HE DOES NOTHING! WAAAAAAHHHH!" It's like people think the training camp roster selection is a goddamn March Madness bracket-- they gotta find the upset pick so they can brag about it to their friends! This isn't a ****ing bracket. Reid just wants the best players and the best team. And like it or not, it probably means Carlos Hyde is going to be on the team, no matter what ****douche PENBROOK 4 LIFE tweets out who says Hyde should be cut. |

Also, given how he played for us last year, I think I'd rather have Allen start at LG than Andrew Wylie, to be honest.

Yeah but the skills AREN'T comparable, I think that's the point everyone is trying to make. When Darwin stepped in there was a demonstrable jump in talent. Hyde is a high floor guy who doesn't do any one thing particularly well and is just wasting everyone's time.
Darwin looks like a playmaker. |
