How do you define a sports dynasty and what does this current Chiefs team need to do

Been considering this a bit lately. Generally speaking I’d have considered any sports team that wins three championships in a five-ish year period a true dynasty.

The Patriots have two, obviously, early 2000s and then the mid 2010s. Early 90s Cowboys. 49ers in the 80s and Steelers in the 70s, IIRC.

Then I was considering things and wondering what we’d need to accomplish in order to be labeled a dynasty. We’ve currently got the one Super Bowl win from the 2019 season. It’s now the 2022 season.

We’ve hosted four straight AFCCGs in that timespan as well. Does that factor in at all or is it solely based on Super Bowl wins?

I think it does a bit. For example, if we’re able to win the Super Bowl this year, I think I would consider us a dynasty.

But I don’t consider the 90s Bills a dynasty so clearly at least one or two actual Super Bowl wins is a requirement.

What are your thoughts?

Alabama 6 national championships in 12 years, early-mid 90's Nebraska, mid-late 80's Miami. College basketball UCLA and early-mid 90's Duke. Celtics or Lakers in the 80's would have been dynasties if not for each other

3 championships in a period of time is a dynasty IMO. If you get 3 in 10 years I think it can be a dynasty if you go to like 5 SB’s and continue hosting championship games

The Lakers won 5 titles in the 1980's and lost in the Finals 3 other times. They are absolutely a dynasty.

If the Chiefs win a couple more in the next 3-4 years, I think you could call it a dynasty. That would be at least four SB appearances and 6+ AFC title game appearances.

Yes, cheating was the usual for them.

With that said, unprecedented dominance would the next thing below a Dynasty. The Chiefs already have that and much more. Mahomes and Kelce are rewriting the record books.

Damn, that's pretty good. I will say I'm undecided on their dynasty status.

I could be convinced either way.

I think we all agree we're not a true dynasty just yet.

What will it take from this point to get there, in your opinion?

Best TE in NFL history (and 2 more highly talented TEs behind him)

Top 5 OL
Top 5-10 DL (by years end, they will be in conversation for best DL in nfl)
Elite and very young LBers
Elite and very young CBs
Solid safeties
A couple RBs that are hungry and talented
Top 5 punter and kicker

The only team that can beat KC, is KC.

You've gone too far, particularly in regards to HC, DL, LB and CB. Reid is great but not the GOAT, this DL is decent but nowhere near top 5, and Bolton and Sneed (as a Swiss Army knife) are elite but not the others.

It is much harder to win Championships in the NFL than the NBA.

Mainly because if you have the best team you have to win 4 of 7 games rather than a one off game.

We probably beat the Bengals if it was best of 7.

Also with only 5 players it is easier for you to be dominant if you are an elite player.

I think getting to 4 championship games, 2 superbowls and a superbowl is enough. But if we get to 1 or 2 more championship games and win one then it cements it.

People are always going to remember this period as being the Chiefs time.

Chiefs need another superbowl win in the next few years to really be a dynasty. Multiple championships in a say 10 year span along with annual playoff wins is the key indicator of a dynasty. Chiefs are right there. Just need that second title.

At this point, I'd like to see it. I like Andy Reid more each year.

Yeah, that one stings considering the team was as healthy as possible. You saw the season before what not being healthy at one position can do. They already have multiple people out this year. It's a battle of attrition and the 2021 Chiefs were fully healthy and still shit the bed.

Win another SB.

3 wins out of 5 appearances.

The amount of Chiefs players in the HOF and those who will be there cements their dynasty status, IMO.
