I don't understand today's young people
Help me out, youth generation (and aging hipsters like Jim and Skip):
Why, in so many pictures of people under 30, do folks flash the "two-finger" sign? Either the index and middle finger together, or the index and pinkie? What does that symbolize or refer to? To me, it's a cliche. So are these folks making an ironic statement in flashing it? Or do they really believe they're being cool? Forgive me, for I am 40 and I sometimes feel like I'm 60. I admit that I'm a 65 year-old in a 43 year-old body, but that whole 'making signs with the fingers in photographs' thing is second only to tattoos in terms of things that the 20-somethings will be embarrassed about when they get older.

99% of the time, they don't know what it means and are just trying to be cool.
Try it. You'll feel cool, too. I promise. |

I remember that. It made national news. The rally was after the Mercedes signs which were made by cheerleaders for pep week or whatever it was called. A bunch of students wanted to prove they knew the difference by having a rally, but they really were just as stupid as the cheerleaders. Don't know why I went to so much trouble to cross state lines and go to that school! I know which cheerleaders made the sign, and worse I know which one was on Who wants to Marry a Millionaire years later. I'm evil, and I never forget. |
