It's little consolation I'm sure but at least they can get some closure, as others have said.

Good that they found the body, at least some closure for the family.. It is all you can really hope for in a terrible situation like that..

Heard this today. At the very least there is no more "what if" factor for his family and friends. RIP

Family and friends will have a little informal get together and reunite Freddie with his partner Reed who awaits him in the big Knob. a sad ending yes...but thank God it HAS ended. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to put myself in Theresa's shoes wondering where the love of my life is. I cannot imagine... Theresa said last night on the news something to the effect of...."Your mind knows what probably happened and that it's over...but your heart keeps thinking there's a chance he could walk through that door, so now that's gone and we can try to move on." Something like that...I worded it poorly I'm sure....point being that they don't have to wonder anymore.
This is a cool place. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers everyone. Really. Maybe it helped the family be just that much stronger.....I think it did. The strength of Theresa and those three kids is just off the charts. Awesome family. You did good Freddie. Rest in peace bro.

Fallen trooper honored by Missouri House Kim Norvell
St. Joseph News-Press On Twitter: @KimNorvell POSTED: 9:41 pm CST March 6, 2012 Share XE-mail to a friendMore Sharing ServicesShare|Share on facebookShare on twitterShare on emailShare on print CommentsPrint FriendlyThe Missouri House honored Trooper Fred Guthrie Jr. and his family Tuesday in a short ceremony. Mr. Guthrie was killed in the 2011 flood when he and his K-9 partner, Reed, were swept away by swift floodwaters in Holt County. A resolution was presented on the House floor to Mr. Guthrie’s wife, Teresa, and his daughter, Amber, by Rep. Nick Marshall, R-Platte City. “It’s with great honor and pleasure that I present this special resolution,” Mr. Marshall said. “Mr. Speaker, no greater gift can be given than that a man lays down his life for a friend. And certainly no greater sacrifice can be made by a trooper than offering up his own life to serve and protect his community.” Mr. Marshall outlined how the fallen trooper’s 17-year career can teach anyone a lesson in service and sacrifice, as he was dedicated to various aspects of the job: as a certified firearms instructor, a K-9 handler and a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s SWAT team. Mr. Guthrie also received numerous recognitions for his service, including Highway Patrol employee of the month, Missouri state employee of the month and the Missouri Medal of Valor. “He has become an everlasting testament to all that true greatness comes through service,” Mr. Marshall said. “It’s something we can be reminded of daily in service to our state.” Also Tuesday, the House Transportation Committee approved a bill that would rename the portion of Interstate 29 in Platte County as “Trooper Fred F. Guthrie Jr. Memorial Highway.” The stretch of interstate would reach from Missouri Highway 273/Missouri Highway 371 north to the intersection of State Route U/State Route E. According to the text of the bill, sponsored by Mr. Marshall and Rep. Galen Higdon, R-St. Joseph, the costs for the designation will be paid for in full by a private donation. http://www.newspressnow.com/localnew...oAd0Q.facebook
